The MusicCast 400 offers powerful, detailed sound and plenty of features, though at $500, it’s an investment that will appeal much more to those considering Yamaha’s particular flavor of multiroom audio and/or discrete surround sound.
-
+
Clear, detailed sound, Powerful bass, Multiroom audio support, Available surround satellites, Impressive control via MusicCast app
-
-
Upper register can get shouty, No front display, Virtual surround just OK
The Yamaha MusicCast Bar 400 delivers a solid, adjustable audio experience with some extra punch from its wireless subwoofer.
-
+
Powerful bass depth and crisp, clear highs. Wireless subwoofer with adjustable levels. Bluetooth and multi-room streaming. Works with Amazon Alexa.
-

Traditional EQ adjustments would be more useful than sound modes. Remote is small and sometimes annoying to use. LED indicators are oddly placed and hard to decipher.
The Yamaha MusicCast Bar 400 offers good sound and plenty of features, but you'll get the most out of it if you invest in additional MusicCast speakers to expand to a 5.1 system.
-
+
Good virtual 3D surround sound, Clear dialog and booming bass, Multiroom and 5.1 capabilities
-
-
Average music-playback quality, No Dolby Atmos support
Listen, for the asking price you sure do get a whole lot for your money. If you’re looking for an all in one, do everything, turn it on and forget it sort of thing you can do no wrong. Sonically, Yamaha’s MusicCast Bar 400 is a just ok in my book.
The Yamaha BAR 400 delivers a solid 2.1-channel performance, making it ideal for both movies and music. The inclusion of MusicCast allows for multiroom support, while DTS Virtual:X delivers a more immersive experience.

-
-
No Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, Only one HDMI input
This capable 2.1-channel soundbar includes some useful features like DTS Virtual:X and MusicCast multiroom, but a lack of immersive audio support puts it at a disadvantage compared to the competition.

-
-
No Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, Only one HDMI input
The Yamaha MusicCast Bar 400 is a solid 2.1-channel soundbar, that sounds great with movies and music. The inclusion of DTS Virtual:X helps create a more immersive experience, while MusicCast multiroom is a really useful feature.

Quality product. I have the Yas 207 and this is definitely an upgrade from that unit. The 400 has much more power and sound quality, it really fills the living room.

I am happy with the sound quality. I connected this sound bar to a Samsung Q9FN Smart TV using the HDMI ARC port on the sound bar and the TV was able to Identify it right away and started redirecting the sound output to it.
This sound bar was a great buy, specially since I purchased it on sale. It is very easy to install and the sound quality is exceptional. It also has the ability to interface with blue tooth which allows for other types of access. I am very happy with my decision topurchase this sound bar.
It took some researching but I wanted a unit that could expand into a true 5.1 system, but in the meantime be a quality 3.1 system to replace a well rated, but cheap and lacking 2.1 Vizio. Though the Vizio made music sound pretty good, it simply could not deliver on the TV front.

Moderately priced for so many features; 5.1 expandable; MusicCast capable; quality sound; clear dialogue; good sounding music.
-
-
Only one HDMI input; app is a little tricky.
This replaced my towers and Polk subwoofer along with my Dennon receiver. Not as big a sound but this will do for sure. Love the clear voice selection. The hard to hear dialogue is finally brought to the front so even I can distinguish it from the background noise.
So far I am very satisfied. It was easy to set up and I am learning how to use Alexa with it.
This is a great product for those who want excellent sound from their TV, but don't want speakers everywhere and a bunch of wires going to and fro on the floor around your television set.

Fewer wires to connect to speakersFewer remote speakersExcellent sound

1. Sub woofer could use a little more oompf2. Control lights on the sound bar could be put on the front so that they could be seen by the user while seated3. Remote control could be chaped differently so that the end to be pointed toward the TV is apparent at first sight
So far so good. This unit was from the outlet store and it seems to work well but when it was removed from the box I noticed something rattling around inside the sound bar. It works but it's a bit worrisome. The Bluetooth isn't the best. It cuts in and out with my iPhone and iPad.
Great sound and quality. There's also an app in the apple store for this soundbar. Great buy!!
My prior setup was traditional receiver, left right and center speaker plus cheap subwoofer. My son purchased a good quality sound bar and it became immediately apparent to me that it's sound was significantly better than mine.
