The Venus Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D is a compact, sharp, ultra-wide lens for mirrorless cameras. It does a great job curbing barrel distortion, even if it's not truly Zero-D as advertised.

Laowa might not be one of the best-known brands out there, but the 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D is a serious, premium-quality lens, both optically and in terms of build quality. Don’t be put off by the manual controls: you’ll adapt surprisingly quickly, and the payback is edge-to-edge sharpness and a...

If you dig wideangles, and I think most ardent photographers do, the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D lens is a hoot to use. It’s fast, focuses close, and it’s wide enough that pinpoint focusing isn’t really necessary (i.e.
Let's start with the fun facts first - "Laowa" - what does that actually mean? Any guesses? In Chinese, it means "(Old) Frog". Why is that? The owner of Laowa (who is also one of the designers) likes the fantasy of a frog looking into the blue sky as his dreamland.
Here we have yet another groundbreaking lens from Laowa Venus Optics, the C-Dreamer 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D for APS-C format. This is a very, very wide lens and to achieve the same field of view we would need something like a 13.5mm lens in 35mm-format terms.
The Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D is a tiny lens that delivers a big performance, with image quality in particular being its forte. The all-manual design might not be to everyone's taste, but this is certainly the cheapest way for Fujifilm X-shooters to gain an ultra-wide-angle view.

I got the Laowa 2.8/9 before going to one of our Photomission trips to Iceland. As the distributor didn’t have any objections I decided to take that lens with me. That’s why this test is exceptional – my opinion is much more practical than usually because I took more than one thousand photos with...

solid, meta casing which is also small,, sensational image quality in the frame centre,, negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,, slight lateral chromatic aberration,, lack of problems related to spherical aberration,, sensible distortion correction,, moderate astigmatism.

weak image quality on the edge of the frame near f/2.8,, huge vignetting,, inferior performance against bright light.
I use this lens with an X-T1 body to take pictures of rooms, room contents, and to make indoor panoramas (using a pano head and rail).I can report on filter usage. I use a Sensei Pro 49-77 step up ring to mount 77mm filters or a 77mm adapter for the Formatt Hitech 85mm aluminum filter holder.
Compact, light, beautifully made, sharp. There are a number of excellent reviews that can easily be found via a web search. This is a fully manual lens but the depth of field is generally large enough that one can focus crudely (or guess) and get the focus right.
Other reviewers have said it better - its very competent in the center at 2.8 but shows a chunk of softness + vignetting in the corners until its stopped down somewhat. Manual focus isnt a huge chore considering how wide this lens is, the thick DoF from ~14mm FF equivalent, 2.8 aperture + APS-C...
Shooting with the same lens for a couple of days is remarkable. This 9mm has been the only lens I've shot with for going on 2 weeks so far.The difference in FOV vs the Rokinon 12mm is huge. I love this lens.
Well they didnt lie when they said zero distortion. Vertical lines stay vertical. The only issue of sorts is heavy vignetting but I find it easy to clear up. Well worth the money.
A great complement to the Fujifilm primes. A very good value. The quality construction, compactness, wide view, and good optics make it a pleasure to use, Not for everyone (so wide, manual focus), but you know who you are.

Very low distortion, and of course ultrawide. Great center acuity, good edges stopped down. Very nicely built with well damped focus and nicely detented aperture ring. Compact. Includes metal petal hood. Takes filters.

Vignetting and still slightly soft in the corners, even stopped down.
IT'S SO TINY!As with most wide-angle lenses, there's definitely vignetting (that can be corrected in post), but the zero-d aspect of this lens (zero distortion) is actually really impressive.
I wish Fuji would let Laowa put in circuitry for AF, vignetting and exposure control. This is very easy to carry lens that can produce very good results if the usur is patient and knows how to use photo-editing programs on a computer.
As this is not a fish-eye, this is really must have lens for wide angle pictures for Fuji F-X and other SLT. Great quality, almost no distorsion.
Very sharp from 2.8! Great colors! No distortion! Highly recommended!!!
