Very compact and user friendly. Comes compatible to Windows, but very easy to configure to Mac. My husband and I are not computer savvy AT ALL, and we figured it out by watching a youtube video. It is super easy to use and you just drag and drop the files.
I have been using it on a USB 1.0 plug, though I believe it may work on USB 2.0. So I can't really comment on speed except that I notice it goes to sleep after a period of inactivity. It doesn't take long to get it up again.
It works on Windows 7 and 8, the operating systems of my two computers. It's a decent size (way more than I need, but it was a good deal when I bought it). There's no need for an extra plug. So far, it hasn't broken.
For how I'm using it, the small cord size is fine, but it would be nice if the USB port on the drive was something like a micro-USB or mini-USB so that users won't have to get a special cord if they want it longer.
Perfect size, functional, and no special software needed. I'll be getting another shortly.
I have used other drives, but Toshiba to me is the most dependable and VERY easy to use.
Easy to use, just plug into your USB and you are ready to go...it is fool proof! Took all my photos off my PC; about 6600, now my PC runs like new. I still have room for about another 493,400 pics. I wish I had gotten this a long time ago.
Compact, Easy To Set Up, Easy to use, High Capacity, Portable
This is my second Toshiba Canvio external HD. The first has been working fine as a backup drive on my dual-boot Windows XP Pro/Windows 7 PC. It is a USB v. 2.0 drive but this latest drive is USB v. 3.0 compatible. I intend to use it as an external backup drive for a newly built Windows 8.1 tower.
The device worked right out of the packaging and seems to be a reasonable product for the money.
First harddrive I've personally had fail on me in 21 years in the IT industry. Worked great for 5 months then just failed, not impressed. Got 2 of these, the other is running ok, but won't be trusting it for anything important.
Got one for me and one for wife. Very easy to use and nice to have a back-up.
It doesn't work on PC.
