The Tokina 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro FX Lens is, essentially, a narrower aperture version of the Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro FX Lens . These two lenses closely share many features and attributes including an ultra-wide angle focal length range with a fixed max aperture, a solid feel, full frame...
For a lens costing around £600, I would normally expect better performance at maximum aperture. Saying that, the sharpness that is possible with the lens stopped down comes close to redeeming this lens.
Very sharp when stopped down, Good build, Some moisture sealing, Low CA and distortion
Performance at maximum aperture could be better, Not much difference in price between this and the Canon alternative (Nikon users may see more appeal in this lens)
After reading many reviews, good and bad, I decided to try it out for myself.I was concerned about the softness in the corners and the 'slow' F/stop.I tested it extensively with my Nikon D610 all through the focal lenths and in third of a stop increments.
I bought this lens last year expecting to buy a quality, workhorse lens. I thought the price was right and the reviews were good. Right from the beginning, there were problems with the lens. The motor kept revving, the focus was soft. I had to send it in to Tokina to have it repaired.
I use this lens with my D800 for landscape photography. I love the sharpness, the size/weight and the wide angle view. Only complaint would be the 82mm filter size, but that's just nitpicking.
After I read many reviews, I decided on this chunk of glass. I'm very happy I did. Ken Rockwell does a great review on this lens. He says it's the best there is for this range. It would also be great for interior shots. Maybe not the best for DX cameras, but for FX it's awesome.
Very well made and the images are very sharp.
I use this lens for wide angle shots such as scenery and group picture. Very happy with the quality and wide angle it provides.
I use alot for real estate but only after one year if use I get Error messages when I use on mark 5 111 and also the 6D. I hoped it would last much longer. looking for a better alternative to buy
I was a little skeptical about this lens but after testing it I was surprised of the sharpness and for the price you can't go wrong love this lens
