I like how this can be configured many different ways to tackle a lot of different microphones and/or rig configurations. The preamps were definitely an upgrade from my old Zoom H4N, but still not as quiet as I had hoped.
This device does everything I need it to! Perfect for the one man crew on the run.
First and foremost this doesn't act like your traditional linear multi-track. Yes it records multiple tracks, but it isn't a linear multi-track in the sense of stopping at a certain point and punching in or continuing where you stopped.
Great product and its ability to monitor channels individually while recording. Also that it can be powered externally by a powerbank negates its strong battery consumption of AA's.
No need to spend a fortune to get quality sound for location First and foremost this doesn't act like your traditional linear multi-track. Yes it records multiple tracks, but it isn't a linear multi-track in the sense of stopping at a certain point and punching in or continuing where you stopped.
This is a very well built unit that is easy to use and sounds very good even in professional applications. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I would prefer that it have a SMPTE output as well as an input.
The 701D is a great field recorder. The preamps are very clean, and very low noise. I also think the controls are organized very nicely. But what really sold me on this model was its ability to jam sync SMPTE time code in.
I owned the original 70D and updated primarily for the timecode input which works great! Love the addition of the stereo mix to hand off to producers. This thing is incredibly feature packed for the price.
After using this for a couple of events I found that the power comsumption was not going to work for event videography. I inserted 4 brand new double A batteries and it drained them in no time.
work wise i am happy to use this unit which gives pretty good results and more in depth analysis for audio . as the menu is bit confusing . its still okay to use . all i suffer is just the battery life . so i decided to use power bank . That was an absolute wrong decision to use power bank .
