Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD ASPH (quite a name huh?) is full of surprises. The lens shows very solid performance throughout the zoom range along with low to moderate level of artifacts such as vignetting and CA.
Th e Tamron SP AF 28-75 F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro is a high-end consumer zoom lens with a lot to recommend it. The zoom range is an ideal replacement for the so-called "normal" 50mm lens, giving considerable versatility.
The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Lens is a relatively small normal zoom lens that delivers good image quality and a wide fixed f/2.8 aperture for a low cost . Pictured above from left to right are the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens , Tamron SP 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di Lens , Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS...
Gary Wolstenholme test the small and light Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens. With downsizing technology and internal focusing, this could be a sheep in wolf's clothing. Tamron's 28-75mm costs around £357 and has a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range.
Lens shown in Nikon mount The Tamron SP AF28-75/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro is a fast, general purpose lens for both digital and film cameras. On a film camera the 28-70mm range covers a lot of applications from landscapes and photojournalism to travel and environmental portraits.
To begin I will give a list of all the Tamron abbreviations for better understanding: AF : Autofocus AD : Anomalous Dispersion. Special optical glass design that reduces chromatic aberration by reducing the amount of “undesirable” light wavelength passage through the lens.
This lens is one of my all time favorites. It's fairly light, tack sharp, and has a decent zoom range. The main problem is with mountaineering you tend to want either wide angle or telephoto, which this lens is neither. So, you end up taking multiple lenses with you on a trip.
This is a compact and lightweight wide aperture standard zoom for use on full-frame and APS-C sensor SLRs.
The Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR may shine with glory on APS-C DSLRs but it has found its master within the full format scope. The border resolution is generally soft at f/2.8 and you need stop down a bit in order to get a decent image quality across the frame.
5 star becuase i couldn't find a better lens (at this focal length & f2.8) by paying anything less. You lose 24mm, and that's about it. I don't see any sharpness issue here becuase it's extremely rare that a better picture would be taken by using a sharper lens than this.
Highly recommend this lens. for the price it takes great pictures and I think the build Quality is great for the Price. Just do it you wont regret it.

Price is the Pro. This lens does a great job. You cant go wrong buying this len and adding to your collection. The 24-75 is great for wide and close up shoots,, like Parties and Weddings. the 2.8f stop allows you to tailor your cameras ISO to allow a blur free shoot in low lite.

Wished it shot wider than 24mm. 18mm would have been nice. Sometimes if you are not careful at what you are doing you may end up with a blown out picture because of the 2.8f stop. remember 2.8 will give you a background that is blurred so be careful to increase f stop if you want to capture a group...
This is an great all around use lense. The things I like most about it is that it is very sharp and focuses fast. It is plenty wide enough on a full frame camera. I don't see a need for VC on the D700 considering it shoots at high ISOs with no noise.

Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Very Sharp
I have had this lens about a year now. The build is plastic and does not have the solid weight you would get with a more expensive lens. In everyday use it is very smooth with focusing in and out and in good to moderate light focuses very quickly.
