In short, this is a well-designed lens that produces cracking results on both full-frame and APS-C bodies.
In my opinion, there is no doubt the Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD [IF] Macro 1:1 is a superb lens, with many fine features. It is capable of producing excellent pictures in both the close-up and telephoto ranges. . The build quality is excellent, as is the detachable tripod collar.
This lens is ergonomically well designed and handled nicely. Despite it’s capabilities, it did not weigh heavily on a neckstrap and felt comfortable and intuitive to use. Handles well and feels right., Good contrast, Good control of distortion and aberrations
Pure resolving power is disappointing, Price a little steep for performance

This fairly large (6.5" long, 3.3" in diameter), reasonably lightweight (32.5 oz, including removable tripod collar) macro tele covers the 24x36mm format in film or digital as well as the smaller APS-C digital format.
Lens performs well. Have only used it a few times. So far, very sharp. Filter rotating ring rattles, however. This is the ring that allows the use of a polarizer (rotation) with the hood in place. The ring is NOT a snug fit and if you shake the lens a bit, it rattles.
Consistent Output, Durable, Rugged, Strong Construction
Noisy Loose Filter Ring
The 180mm focal length is perfect for small moving subjects because you're far enough away with this lens not to bother them. The image quality like most macro lenses is outstanding. The sharpness of the lens is impressive even wide open a f/3.5.
Consistent Output, Durable, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh
Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus
I will start off by saying that I use this lens adapted on a Sony a7 and it has proven excellent, despite this being an unorthodox lens for my camera. Images have great sharpness and color from wide open. I also like the bokeh when at Macro distances.
