For some, the loss of 200mm reach
I bought this new Tamron telephoto zoom last week on sale and I don't want to take it off my camera! It's a full-frame lens but works great on on my APSC sensor A6600, so the 1.5x crop factor actually makes it equivalent to 105-270mm.
I wanted a mid-priced zoom for Sony full-frame, but the Tamron 70-180 has too many compromises to recommend. Because it's compact and light, it's suitable as a travel lens. At full zoom, centre sharpness, colour, contrast, vignetting and aberrations were good at F2.8 and very good at 5.6.
Great lens and half the price of the Sony 70-200. Used mainly for sport(once we wrestle it back from this virus) but at the minute i am taking a lot of images of shipping on the River Clyde near Gourock.
This lens is very different in use than the zoom lenses that cover or come close to this range. Color, contrast, sharpness are all excellent, the new lens cap design beats the old with a more secure hold to the lens hood.
