Just exactly how good is Tamron’s best lens ever? I predict that the Tamron SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD is destined to become a benchmark lens that other glass is measured by. That is the highest accolade I can pronounce on any product.

Like middle-aged spread but in a good way, the new Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD prime commemorates 40 years of Tamron SP (Super Performance) lenses, and is fittingly fatter and heavier than its predecessor.

• Fast f/1.4 aperture rating, • Superb build and image quality, • Rapid, highly accurate autofocus

is capable of doing, I would have liked it more if it were designed for Mirrorless. I feel like this lens is wasted on DSLRs. And that’s truly a shame because it’s an absolutely stellar performer.

solid, sealed and stylish casing,, sensational image quality in the frame centre,, excellent image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, very good image quality on the edge of full frame,, lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, negligible lateral chromatic aberration,,...

some problems connected with spherical aberration,, high vignetting on full frame,, performance against bright light could have been at least a tad better.

The performance is excellent, the handling is excellent and this puts the Tamron on a par with the best alternative 35mm f/1.4 lenses, and, it must be said, at an attractive price. Yes, it is still expensive, but that is the price we have to pay for such high quality.

Excellent sharpness throughout, Low CA, Superb flare resistance, Moisture resistant construction, Fast and precise AF, Modest vignetting, Quality construction, Full Time Manual Focus in AF mode

Quite large and heavy, High but fair price
Pictures simply looks great with this lens.

A few but nothing severe; Strong but gradual vignetting at f/1.4, a little focus shift stopping down, some visible distortion close up. Some flare may turn up at particular light angles.

A very good new 35mm Tamron lens with beautiful rendition and ease of use. Colour, contrast & bokeh excellent. Really sharp already from f/1.4 from center to edge. Isolates subject + 3D pop in many types of light! Can make small sunstars already at f/2.8. A well rounded performance.
