The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD is an ambitious, ultra-wide zoom lens with a fixed f/2.8 aperture and image stabilization, but like most lenses of this type, it shows significant distortion.

  • +

Sharp. Optically stabilized. Maximum f/2.8 aperture throughout zoom range. Integrated lens hood. Ultra-wide field of view. Close focus capability. Available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony systems.

  • -

Lots of distortion. Bulky. No filter support. Some flare issues.

The Tamron SP 15-30MM F/2.8 Di VC USD ultra-wide zoom lens provides great low-light performance with the their vibration correction optical image stabilization to give a great ultra-wide zoom lens. Although large, it is easy to handle while shooting.

  • +

Comfortable and easy to operate, for a while, f/2.8 and VC provide great low-light and handheld performance, Controls aberrations and distortions very well, Sharp images, even when shooting wide open, Moisture resistant construction allows you to use the lens in most climates

  • -

Large and heavy, will wear you out after some time, Lens shape prohibits the use of protective and creative filters

During the course of several days, I grew to love the Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di FC USD more and more. What I soon realized is that my 24-70mm f/2.8 optic may be a nice, all-around glass, but it pales in comparison when it comes to shooting architecture and capturing dramatic perspectives.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD , ( buy from Amazon ) is a very good lens. It’s very sharp in the center and still pretty good out to the edges on full frame cameras, even wide open. Additionally, the stabilization is effective to the extent of maybe 2 stops at 15mm and 3 stops at 30mm.

Tamron's produced a compelling lens for those who are interested in ultra-wide angle photography, and it's priced competitively. However, there are a couple of notes to consider here. The first is the much-touted ƒ/2.8 aperture.

This ultra-wide angle lens from Tamron sports a fast constant aperture of f/2.8 and as it is one of Tamron's 'SP' lenses, it sports rugged build quality and a dust and weather sealed construction.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens is a minor update to one of the rare, stabilized ultra-wide zooms, but it doesn't pair well with the highest-resolution cameras.

  • +

Bright f/2.8 aperture. Optical stabilization. Ultra-wide angle of view. Full-frame compatibility. Fluorine coating and all-weather build.

  • -

Only sold in Canon and Nikon mount. Bulky. Image quality suffers on high-resolution sensors. Heavy barrel distortion. Nikon version doesn't support rear filters.

Overall the Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a versatile lens for shooters looking for something wide, fast, and durable. We'd also recommend it to vloggers and YouTubers who need an affordable wide-angle lens.

  • +

AF is reliable and fast, Solid, durable construction, Minimal signs of chromatic aberration on images, Constant F/2.8 aperture

  • -

A bit heavy, if you are shooting video with it you will want a tripod. Handheld shooting or shoulder mount shooting for long periods of time isn't ideal., Pricey compared to other Tamron lenses.

Is Tamron’s SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens perfect? As economist David Henderson once said, “the closer you get to perfection the harder it gets to attain it, and this costs more money.” Is the lens perfect enough for real-world photography and maybe video too? Yes.

The SILKYPIX Developer Studio for Tamron provides a range of functions, in addition to the basic adjustment capabilities, such as correcting aberrations (lateral color, distortion, relative illumination fall-off) referring to the optical design data.

I purchased the first version of this lens to mount on my Sony A99. It has fantastic sharpness, color rendition and micro contrast. It balances well in my hand and while on the A99. A must for A mount for a wide angle zoom that can do it all. It also fits well in the Lowepro 11cmx18cm lens case.

On my A99II:1)At the wide end, my Sony 16-35/2.8 is a little better at the frame edge compared to the Tamron 15-30/2.8. However, when set to 30mm, the Tamron is noticeably better than the Sony. The Tamron seems has a more even performance over the whole zoom range compared to the Sony.

I'm a diehard Sony A-mount user(A99) and I'm still awaiting the latest(if any) DSLR camera from Sony. Most of my lenses are Carl Zeiss or Sony G lenses. I recently purchased the Tamron 15-30mm and was blown away by the quality of the photos.

The lens is sharp, has well controlled flair and and chromatic aberration, and focuses fast and accurately on my A99ii. The build quality seems very good. Nothing more needs be said.

I purchased this lens because it is a fast (F2.8), ultra-wide angle zoom for full frame cameras (Sony A99, in my case). I have used it off and on for about a month. I like its low light capability (I always seem to end up in low light situations!), and its very wide field of view.
