A full Tamron 60mm f/2.0 Di II Macro Lens review may be completed in the future, but for now, please enjoy the standardized test results and other information available.

28 February 2010

Macro lenses are highly sought after for a variety of uses, from close ups to portraits and landscapes. Their quality is expected to be exemplary and the only disadvantage tends to be a fairly modest maximum aperture.

  • +

f/2 aperture, Good build quality, Excellent value for money, Good performance, Full time manual function feature

  • -

    Some barrel distortion

The Tamron 60mm f2 Di II macro is a good lens with high sharpness and low distortion, even wide open, at both normal and macro focusing distances. The fast f2 aperture allows creative use of DOF effects, provides a sightly brighter image for focusing and can be used to better blur backgrounds in...

Introduced at the end of March of 2009, Tamron's new 60mm is finally hitting the shelves at the camera stores. What makes this lens stand out more than anything else is its fast f2.0 lens. That's not a typo its a full stop faster than the competition's f2.8 lenses.

The world's fastest 1:1 digital macro lens ($570, street), this is also the fastest Tamron, and its first to allow manual focus while in autofocus mode. It has a very tight closefocusing distance, and it belongs to Tamron's top-tier SP family of Super Performing lenses.

The Tamron SP AF 60 mm f/2.0 Di II LD (IF) Macro 1:1 is a splendid lens in many respects. The quality of its optics is beyond reproach. The lens provides sharp images at all apertures and across the frame. Most of optical aberrations is corrected well or even in an exemplary manner.

  • +

compact, light and sealed barrel,, good fastness increasing the range of uses of the lens,, splendid resolution both in the centre and on the edge of the frame starting up from the maximum aperture,, slight chromatic aberration,, low distortion,, well-corrected astigmatism,, good work against bright...

  • -

significant vignetting at the maximum relative aperture,, weak performance of focusing mechanism.

The Tamron AF 60mm f/2.0 SP Di II is a welcome addition to the range of 60mm macro lenses. It shows very high sharpness and pleasing bokeh, with its large aperture allows for nice subject separation and therefor qualifies for many more usages than just macro shots.

The Tamron AF 60mm f/2 SP Di II macro is an attractive lens for various reasons. There is, of course, the very large max. aperture of f/2 which should be usually fast enough to replace a conventional 50mm f/1.8 lens for low light and shallow depth-of-field photography.

I already owned the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP DI MACRO 1:1 VC USD but wanted an APS-C macro to pair with my new Nikon D7200's. Having read all previous reviews for the 60mm f/2 I was initially thinking of going with the Nikon AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G simply because it was about half the cost and...

positives: Sharp Fast Build quality negative: None yet, maybe price I *LOVE* this lens. It has a wide comfortable focus ring with smooth action, creamy bokeh, fast aperture, quick focus, easy AF/MF switch and takes DAMN good pictures. I'm not sure what there is to dislike.

Overall the camera has nice optics, but unlike more contemporary lens offered by Tamron, this glass only has micromotor instead of USD drive, which makes its focusing action relatively slower. In case the subject moves during this, you may lose focus. Also this lens has no vibration compensation.

I shoot a lot of macros from a tripod with studio lighting. The focusing ring has a very noticeable play/slop. Because of that, it was extremely frustrating/difficult to get focus precisely in the manual mode. Tamron claims this play is normal.

I have been using Tamron lenses for years. They have done the job very well for me. I added this lense to do more maro nature photography. It delivers crisp images.

For 60mm macro, I wouldn't advise anything, but this lens! Due to it is f2.0, it is nice for portraits as well.

  • +

Unique f2.0 aperture! Brighter than any other 60mm Macro lens.

  • -

Build quality and autofocus reaction could be better.

Tamron makes great lenses. I have used them with 35mm cameras such as the Canon A-1 and the Nikon F-3HP and have found them to be clear and sharp. They are easy to use and usually at a better price than Canon and Nikon lenses.

If you are into macro photography this lense is clear and sharp & easy to use. It is easy to manually focus and quick when you want to use auto focus. I was a CSI photographer before I retired from the Police department and that requires clear & sharp 1:1 ratio photography as well as micro...
