If silence is a true luxury, then perhaps the $279.99 which Sony asks for its new WF-1000XM4 active-noise cancelling earbuds isn’t, in fact, all that lavish. The company which upended ANC – and gave Bose and others sleepless nights – with headphones like the WH-1000XM3 has returned to demonstrate...

The Sony WF-1000XM4 is the wireless earbuds upgrade we’ve anticipated, with better aesthetics, sound, noise cancellation and battery life. The Sony WF-1000XM4 is a sweet upgrade that packages elite sound, noise cancellation, and awesome features into a fancy, revamped design.

Exceptional, full-bodied sound, Gorgeous redesign, Strong noise cancellation, Great battery life, Endless number of personalized features, Responsive smart controls

Call quality still underperforms, Unstable fit, No multipoint technology or NFC
In the over-the-ear headset market, the battle between noise-canceling headphones is primarily between Sony and Bose. However, in the wireless earbuds space, there are many competitors with noise-canceling capability now present even in some earbuds priced less than $100.
-

Stunning audio performance, Effective active noise-cancellation, Speak-to-chat option, Long battery life, Simple, reliable touch controls, Small case with wireless charging capability

The Sony WF-1000XM4 are very good for commute and travel. These comfortable and lightweight in-ears have an ANC system that does a decent job of reducing the low rumbles of bus or plane engines. Thanks to their small size, you can easily fit them into most pockets or bags without a problem.
-
+
ANC has great noise isolation performance., Comfortable, stable, and breathable fit.
-
-
Touch controls can be very sensitive.
Sony makes numerous headphones and earbuds across a range of prices, but the 1000X line is its flagship family with top dogs like the WH-1000XM4 over-ear headphones and the aging but still capable WF-1000XM3 earbuds .

+
Audio qualityClear, crisp, accurate sound with plenty of EQ setting and LDAC support., DesignThe XM4s and their case are much smaller than the bulky XM3 earbuds., Foam tipsComes with high-quality foam eartips instead of silicone.
-
-
Design againThe XM4s are big and may not be comfortable for some people., PriceAt $279.99, the XM4s are $50 more expensive than the already spendy XM3s were., Solo modeOnly the right earbud works solo., No multipointNo option to connect seamlessly to multiple devices.
When it comes to the best over-ear headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM4 will always be in the conversation. If you want the same quality in an earbud, the WF-1000XM4 is the set for you. These have the best ANC and sound quality of any earbuds on the market today.
-
+
Incredible sound quality, The best ANC in any earbud, Excellent, adjustable Ambient Mode
-
-
Touch controls are finicky, Only three tips, Foam tips may not work well for everyone
I would highly recommend the Sony WF-1000XM4 for everyone who listens to music while commuting. The design is improved, the fit is more comfortable, and the price is reasonable for the kind of ANC technology it is offering.
-
+
Excellent and natural noise cancellation and ambient sound, Supports EQ controls, Speak-to-Chat helps in sudden conversations, Improved design and ergonomics
-
-
Unable to adjust volume and playback controls under the same function set, Average voice call quality
If you want the best true wireless earphones, the Sony WF-1000XM4 has to be in the discussion amongst the most popular models. It has its foibles, but it's probably the most mature stab at the true wireless design that includes ANC. Still, the price is tough to surmount.

Price, Out-of-the-box sound a little wonky
Sony first released its WF-1000XM3 earbuds nearly two years ago, and though they offered some of the best noise cancellation and sound quality you could find at that time, a lot has changed since.
-
+
Best noise cancellation in true wireless earbuds, Excellent, detailed sound, New leader in battery life among competition
-
-
No Bluetooth multipoint, Microphone performance could still be better, Only three sizes of ear tips included
No strings attached WF 1000XM4 is the latest TWS iteration from SONY following the success of XM3. While I am not a fan of the over ear version (WH moniker), SONY has knocked it out of the park with the TWS. Its not underrated by any mean.

1. Extremely coherent and linear sounding all across the frequency range, 2. Beautiful midrange with slightly warm tilt, 3. Powerful, rumbly, quality bass, 4. Zero fatigue, extremely smooth sounding. Perfect for long listening sessions, 5. App and features are pretty useful.

1. Stock tips are trash, 2. Touch control is a bit too sensitive but not a dealbreaker, 3. Can be uncomfortable with the stock tips. extremely comfy with final E type and SONY hybrids though
Best pair of earbuds I've ever owned, coming from a pair of Galaxy buds + these put those to shame worth the extra money for getting better battery, sound quality, and amazing noise cancellation I would recommend to anyone looking for a set of high quality earbuds i rate 5/5 only issue to me is they...

Can become uncomfortable, can't connect multiple devices
I have had the Bose qc buds and the Sony’s were easier to set up. They sound really good. The noise cancellation is easy and works well. The ambient sound is better on the Sony’s. The case is far better than the Bose one. Instead of a button it is a magnet. The buds sit nicely in the case.
Sound quality is great, exactly what I expected from Sony. I taken calls with traffic and wind around me, friends say they didn't hear anything and thought I was on my office headset. My comfort rating is based on the supplied ear tips. Fit is always a personal thing with ear buds.

Foam ear tips may not be for everybody
The M4 is amazing, these earbuds are fantastic your going to love them. The sound with the eq. app is great. The ambient sound function works well , which you'll need for the noise cancelling. OMG world gone quiet all without adjusting your earbuds. Enjoy
These were my first venture into noises canceling earbuds. So far I am more than satisfied. The sound is wonderful with crisp highs, great mids, and satisfying bass. Note the Android/Apple app is great for controlling noise canceling and other characteristics, including equalization for which these...

Noise-canceling, sound signature, comfort, secure hold
Been using these primarily at work, and loving them. Like others have said, the fit is better for those of us with larger ears, I think. My wife has tried them but they're much trickier to fit in her smaller ears.

Wish these would have fit my ears but the plastic casing made my ears sore after an hour of use. Otherwise great buds.
An amazing set of in-ear noise-cancelling ear phones. Great balance of features to quality in both build and sound. If you're looking for a quality set these are definitely worth your hard earned cash. Streaming Tidal HiFi sounds amazing and when it comes to working out, they stay secure.
