I was waiting to write this review until I had a chance to put the lens through proper due diligence. I have almost 30 years as a professional fashion and advertising photographer. I have used just about every line of gear, so I am able to justly rate this lens. It is simply fantastic.
This is a good lens. Lightweight, very sharp and great color reproduction. This is a good lens to pair with your mirrorless A7 series camera. Its not very big or heavy and the 49mm filter size will not break the bank if you shoot with filters.
Lightweight, sharp, color reproduction.
Onion ring bokeh, price
It took a little getting used too a fixed lense. Now that I have a grasp on its range. This is a "go to" lens for mid-range portraits while also very impressive on close ups with micro magnification lense adapters.
This is my first full frame camera and my first full frame lens. That said I think this lens is as good as all of the reviews describe it. 55mm on a full frame is a bit "tight" but it works well for candid family portraits.
Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh
This lens definitely lived up to its Zeiss name! Superbly sharp across all aperture and from center to edges. The bokeh is very nice and smooth as a 55mm lens and the colors look great. I actually bought this lens instead of the 35mm and have not regretted it yet.
Use this lens on both my 7R2 and 6000. It is the sharpest lens (50mm range) I have used, on the 7R2 it allows for cropping without noticeable loss off detail. Did a 20x30 print amazing.
Pretty great lens here. I actually prefer the 50mm Zeiss 1.4 but it is quite a bit larger. I use primarily for video and the 50mm looks more cinematic to me. Size, price and quality though, you can't beat the 55.
The most incredible prime lens - takes phenomenal portraits with incredibly sharp detail and fast focusing. It's a real pleasure to use, and transforms my A7R to easily the best camera I've ever worked with.
I bought this lense after reading many positive reviews. Now I can say it is beyond my expectations. This lense is very sharp. It's light and compact, well baclanced when put on my Sony A7R2. Absolutely a nice lense.
I needed a low light lens for filming on my A7RII and this is the perfect solution. The Lens is sharp wide open and produces decent bokeh.
