I was waiting to write this review until I had a chance to put the lens through proper due diligence. I have almost 30 years as a professional fashion and advertising photographer. I have used just about every line of gear, so I am able to justly rate this lens. It is simply fantastic.
This is a good lens. Lightweight, very sharp and great color reproduction. This is a good lens to pair with your mirrorless A7 series camera. Its not very big or heavy and the 49mm filter size will not break the bank if you shoot with filters.
Lightweight, sharp, color reproduction.
Onion ring bokeh, price
Makes images so delicious on my a6000 that you want to lick them. I would assume the same result on all the 6000 family. SInce the a6000 has a crop sensor it is an 83mm equivalent which is a good portrait size but not so ideal everyday size, Since I shoot 90% of the time with prime lenses I am...
This is my first full frame camera and my first full frame lens. That said I think this lens is as good as all of the reviews describe it. 55mm on a full frame is a bit "tight" but it works well for candid family portraits.
Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh
This lens definitely lived up to its Zeiss name! Superbly sharp across all aperture and from center to edges. The bokeh is very nice and smooth as a 55mm lens and the colors look great. I actually bought this lens instead of the 35mm and have not regretted it yet.
very sharp light and fast
This is an amazing lens that has both sharpness and solid rendering of the scene.
Simply put this lens is stunning and the image quality does not match the way it looks. When I first saw it I thought it might be a kit lens .... how wrong could i be. I tend to shoot weddings with 35/85 but I occasionally switch and use the 55mm 1.8 and i am never left disappointed.
This is hands down one of the best lenses you can get for the Sony mirrorless cameras. It's very fast, very sharp, and generates nicebokeh if needed.
Use this lens on both my 7R2 and 6000. It is the sharpest lens (50mm range) I have used, on the 7R2 it allows for cropping without noticeable loss off detail. Did a 20x30 print amazing.
