Very good for the price I paid
I am very pleased with this amplifier based on the price that I paid. It was reasonably easy to set up and the sound is excellent on my sound system. However, as others have mentioned in on-line reviews, the screen menus that pop up automatically whenever you turn on the unit are extremely annoying. Whenever the sound system is turned on, the receiver pops up a little menu on-screen and we have to then go to the remote for the receiver and confirm a couple of settings before we can watch TV. There needs to be a setting that will allow you to opt out of these menus. Maybe a firmware update? Would love to know if that is planned.

I purchased this amp about three weeks ago to replace a Yamaha amp that had a video card failure. I was skeptical of this unit because I’ve had no experience with Sony audio equipment. I can tell you that I am pleasantly surprised! This unit has less distortion than the Yamaha and more features. Love the fact that I could hook up both of my subs directly! It was very easy to set up and the sound is great! It works great with my Yamaha surround speakers and my Polk/Yamaha subs. Very happy with the price paid and the quality! I highly recommend!!

Perfect for what we needed
I actually replaced a Sony 1040 receiver with this because of upgrading our TV and Blu-Ray to 4K HDR. We use all Sony products except for our small surround system speakers which are Klipsch. I was concerned about going from top of the line to entry level, but all we have is a small 5.1 living room system. We suffered no loss of sound quality whatsoever and more power than we could ever need. Works perfectly with our Apple TV. Both picture and sound could not be better. Highly recommend this perfect little receiver!!!

Bluetooth is not pairing
Blue Tooth on this receiver will not pair with Blue Tooth Head Phone. All the information I have seen on this product indicates that this Sony STR-DH590 A/V Receiver, IS BLUE TOOTH COMPATIBLE.
I am hearing impaired and want blue tooth head phones for listening to my music and for listening to my TV without blowing the windows out. I am extremely disappointed in Sony. I am well into my twilight years have purchased many Sony products all my life, still have many of them in my home...
I would be more than happy to hear from Sony regarding this matter.
Please note I do not read the owners manuals prior to purchasing and item.

Outstanding Features--Sweet Power!!
Received this model for a Christmas gift. Receiver is directionally forward because of wiring issues. Have (4) tweeters; (2) mid-ranges; (1) 12" sub-woofer. Not a true surround sound...however, even though the sound comes from one direction--forward toward seating area...the sound is still AWESOME!! :) Outstanding power, when playing Bluetooth music, Device movies; & DVD movies..sounds like a deep dance club sound--OUTSTANDING!! :) Remote controls all the HDMI functions, except still have to use the satellite & Apple TV remote to turn on/off functions. Regardless, would still recommend this product. LOVE IT!! :) :)

Difficult to set up with DirecTV remote
This is the second one that I have bought as the first one quit working with the DirecTV remote after a nearby lightning strike, but otherwise it still worked fine. The second one would not work when I connected the satellite receiver HDMI output to the SAT input on the new Sony receiver and I had to switch it to the GAME HDMI input to make it work. So far I have not had the time to once again try all the DirecTV codes to find the one that works to remotely turn on and off the Sony receiver. But at least I found one can control the volume! Otherwise it sounds great with my 20-year old Sony 5-channel + sub-woofer speakers

Great receiver that produces fantastic sound !!
Fantastic. I replaced an old, 2005 Onkyo 5.1 A/V receiver that did not have any HDMI ports nor an HDMI/ARC compatible port and had lost the volume to one speaker output. I had just purchased the new 75" Sony Bravia TV and wanted to take advantage of the compatibility and all that this system has to offer. The configuration menu displayed on my TV was pretty cool also and made it much easier to configure all my other equipment I have hooked up to the receiver. A great product at a great price. With both HDMI and RCA input jacks, I am able to connect all of my equipment. The sound produced is nothing short of spectacular.

An Affordable Reciever with 4k and HDR Pass-Throug
An awesome affordable receiver with 4K and HDR pass-through. All HDMI inputs are 2.2 compliant. Easy Set Up. Nice Power at 145W per channel. Have it hooked up as 2.1 - will expand to 5.1 soon (or 5.2 ). But no rush - has a Front Surround feature that really does make 2.1 sound like real surround. As long as this thing lasts - and it's heavy and built like a tank so it should - I couldn't be more happy with my purchase
