bought this camera as a replacement for my aging ex-1r. my advice for anyone in a similar position is to pay the extra $ and buy the pxw-x200. the larger chip size really does make a huge difference in the low-light ability.

The video quality is good using SXS memory cards. The enclosed XQD adapter does not work at all. Bought a 64GB card that would not format in the camcorder. The adapter is useless. But using the more expensive SXS cards are fine. Why Sony would enclose a useless adapter with camera is beyond me.

I am using the PXW-X180 on a college campus and so far it is the perfect balance of broadcast and cinima to meet our needs. With the addition of SD card adapter I can shoot high quality video of a long format events like concerts and plays for an aforable price, and then switch over to my SxS card...

We purchased this for the lens and that alone makes it worthwhile for our particular needs. Ordered it as soon as it came out, serial#29, sometimes that can be risky but everything is working as promised.

This is an update to my first review. Unfortunately I'm on my second camera, as the first one kept giving me error messages: E95-205.When this happens an alarm goes off, and the camera will not shut off, or it will take 30 seconds or better to shut down. Usually you have to pull the battery.

Outstanding camera. Great lens! The XQD media and Adapters work well in place of the SxS media cards. Really no need for SxS cards if they are out of your budget range. If you want to use SD cards, just bite the bullet and buy the Sony Adapters.
