Reticent highs, Plastic construction
The best bit about the top-quality £300 Sony MDR-1R Prestige headphones is how easily they skip between roles as a portable and at-home pair. They look great, feel great and sound great too.
-
+
Superb design, Excellent comfort, Good bass management, overall sound quality
-
-
Some mid-range thickness, tame treble, Expensive
Are the Sony MDR-1R "prestige headphones" worth the £300 asking price on the UK Sony Store? That's arguable. But the £200 price floating around on other major online retailers is far more, er, on the money. Taken in that context and we have heaps of praise for these over-ears.

+
Eventually very comfy, great sound, lots of mid-high frequency range 'snap' yet enough bass to deliver a rounded sound, attractive design
-
-
Exposed drivers can touch against ears, bass doesn't rumble as much as the higher-spec versions, not necessarily perfect for on-the-go listening, Sony Store price is too steep, really low frequencies not as impactful as might be expected
Disclaimer Hi everyone, Before I start the review, I would like to thank Sony for making this awesome headphone.
-
+
- Excellent bass performance, Lush but detailed Mids, great controled non-fatigueing Treble, wide soundstage, accurate imaging, looks premium
-
-
- sound signature not for everyone, inconsistent pricing across regions, lack 4 pin XLR cable.
all in all one of the best headphones I've owned. recommend them for home use and not places with a lot of ambient noise like in the subway, on an airplane, or even on a noisy street.
-
+
-great design, -very good sound quality bass not overpowering, -great for watching movies you forget that you have them on, -very comfy, -excellent build quality, -good price when compared to the competition
-
-
-not the best ambient sound isolation, -trebles aren't great
Just like the Sennheiser Momentum Headphones, the Sony MDR-1R are Sony ’s entry into the “lifestyle” headphone category. These headphones are designed to be portable, comfortable, and stylish, as well has delivering decent sound quality.
I've owned a lot of top end headphones, and none have compared to these. They're different and that's why I like them. What these do that other top end headphones do not do is deliver emotion. Warm, buttery emotion whilst not compromising on the high fidelity experience.
I have it for few months now, and I am still smiling each time I use it. Love the sound signature, very comfortable, very limited sound leakage (I use it at home and at the office).
have owned these headphones for a few weeks now and the sound quality is fantastic. I like the idea of being able to swap the cables and the fact they can be replaced if they get damaged. Overall good value and they look really good too.
