The Sony MDR-7506 are very good for neutral sound. They have a well-balanced sound with a punchy bass that doesn't drown out the excellent mid-range. Instruments and vocals sound clear, and the detailed mid-range and bright treble lend themselves well to analytical listening.

  • +

Balanced sound., Lightweight and decently comfortable design.

  • -

    Poor soundstage performance.

They've been around since 1991, but the Sony MDR-7506s are still great sounding -- and fitting -- headphones for less than $100.

The Senal SMH-1000 studio headphones have the look and feel of the Sony MDR-7506 headphones, which pretty much set the standard for professional monitoring headphones in the sub-$100 range. In many cases, the Sony MDR-7506 headphones are even better than other models that cost substantially more.

Even when a product is not the latest release from a company, its reliability and quality always makes reviewing it worthwhile. Back in 2001, when I first moved to the NY, this pair of Sony headphones was the piece of gear that kept my mind sane.

For a cheaper—and less fancy—option that still provides quality sound, Sony’s large-diaphragm MDR7506 headphones are my go-to when mixing music at home. The over-the-ear headphones have 40mm drivers and are designed to block out unwanted noise and prevent sound from escaping into microphones.

The Sony MDR7506s are an industry-standard for tracking live sessions and monitoring broadcasts that won’t break the bank. Used in professional studios for decades, these cans feature 40mm drivers, neodymium magnets, and a frequency response of 10 Hz to 20 kHz.

This is the 2nd set of these I've had (the other pair evolved legs). Good, solid cans. They're accurate, lightweight, and comfy as hell!! I've used and seen them used for years by many professional touring audio engineers. And...no you can't borrow them; go get your own, you won't regret it.

First off, I must have a small head cuz every headphones I ever got wore like they were too big. Not these though. adjusted perfectly on my cranium. Comfortable af too. Very nice reproductive tones. Crispy highs and pronounced bass. The cushions work well canceling external sounds.

i will keep it simple.. Value for the sound is great you can't go wrong. But you will highly disappointed in long term use.The vinyl on the ear pads wear off very quickly...its actually embarrassing.I would consider a headphone that has higher quality materials for long term use.But if you need...

I got these to replace a pair of Sennheiser HD25's which are also great headphones, but are 'on ear' and I found them not as comfy as these Sonys. The sound is very similar in quality to the Sennheisers and as long as you have fairly small ears they fit over your ears, making them better for long...

I cant be more positive about these headphones. Pound for pound the value is unparalleled. If youre an editor and cant afford good quality monitor speakers these are the answer. If you edit on the go or simple want to work with headphones from time to time, get these. They are excellent for mixing.

I have always just used very cheap headphones for my production. Just bought the MDR-7506s and am blown away! I have never heard music in this depth and clarity before! There could be a bit more bass but it is fine the way it is. Very level output, making it great for production.

Although I have a range of choices available for studio work, I always seem to go back to the 7506 because they are flat enough in their response. Adjustments in EQ and even FX seem to pan out on playback, as these monitors will not “fool you” by overcoloring frequency ranges.

These headphones have been the go-to choice for studios and radio station employees for many years. Why change now. This is my second pair. I needed a backup in case my first pair wears out. The first pair is over 10 years old and still going.

I have been using these headphones professionally, as a UK Broadcast TV Sound Recordist for at least ten years, You need consider no other as long as the noise levels you are working in are not enormous, some external sounds are audible to the extent that it will stop you walking backwards into...

one of the reasons why i bought a pair was that i can afford. i had very limited choices back then. it had good reviews so i decided on them. no regrets because they were very useful. although they are far from the very advanced ones in the market, you can still use it for listening to good music.
