The supercomfortable Sony MDR-1A does a good job balancing clarity with just enough of laid-backness to make it a very versatile headphone that's well worth considering if you're looking for a full-size headphone in the $250-$300 range.

The Sony MDR-1A is a relatively lightweight, very comfortable full-size headphone that offers sound that's improved over the MDR-1R's, with better definition from the bass through the midrange to the treble.

-
Somewhat pricey; in-line remote lacks some functionality for iPhone users.
Sony's MDR-1A over-ear headphones are luxurious-feeling, exceptionally comfortable, and deliver top-notch audio performance.

Fantastic audio performance with deep lows and clear, well-defined highs. Sleek design with luxurious material. Extremely comfortable fit. Ships with two detachable cables, one with an inline remote and microphone for mobile devices.

Quite expensive. Not for purists seeking a flat response sound signature.
When someone asks you how do you enjoy your music, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Would it be you sitting in a room with speakers blasting tunes, or maybe you sitting in your reading corner with headphones on with a good book, or even on your evening jog with earphones pumping adrenaline...

Great overall sound, Incredibly comfortable

Cups could be just a tad bigger
Others are fascinated by the premium look and have a hard time choosing the colours available which are black and silver. Everybody loves these headphones, the price is reasonable, they are stylish, portable and the sound is superb.

Stylish. Portable. High-Res Audio.

Cable short Need a big head.
The Sony MDR-1A is an all-around great over-ear headphone. It has both attractive form and ergonomic function. You won't get features galore, but the rotating earcups and removable cable should do the trick for most users. The sound is impactful while being composed and detailed.
In a nutshell, the Sony MDR-1A is ridiculously comfortable, beautifully designed, and delivers outstanding upper half register. It’s not well suited for bassheads but if you’re the type that loves listening to tracks that are not dominated with bass, this is worth every peso.
I often have a habit of writing Sony headphones off as old, boring headphones. Maybe because Sony’s monitors have been around since Jesus was a Cub Scout, or maybe because Sony’s offerings get overshadowed by those from other manufacturers. Well, the $289 Sony MDR-1a just landed on my desk.
Sony audio may not be the one we normally associate with audiophile quality, but that perception might be changing. Released late last year, the Sony MDR 1A is the successor to the MDR 1R. Sony claims that it is superior to its predecessor, a claim we were keen to verify.

Lack low-end control, Vocals sound insubstantial
Sony’s supremely comfortable headphones offer better value than most fashion pairs.
I have owned numerous headphones in the past and after doing research found these. I wanted to go back to a wired headset and these fit everything I have been looking for. They are extremely comfortable and haven't had to take them off for anything besides when the wife is talking to me :)I paired...

Awesome balanced sound

Lack of controls for smartphone.
First of all, above any other factor, these are just SO COMFORTABLE!! There are very expensive headphones I used that sound really good but feel like someone is trying to crush my head.
-
+
- Unbeatable comfort, a bit more bass than usual (but it is good bass), good articulation between instruments, looks really good
-
-
- Highs might be a bit too much for some people, no 1/4 adapter, all cords are for on-the-go, needs time to burn in
Pros: These Sony headphones are light, comfortable for wearing for long periods, and have great sound. They are not 100% faithful 'studio reference' headphones, with a touch more both bass and treble - but not enough to offend the ears.
very good clear and clean sound.comfortable to wear.

I have downloaded and ripped quite a number of 16 bit/24 bit FLAC Lossless tracks to play on my Hi Res Sony Walkman (and my new computer) with the MDR-1A Headphones. The sound quality and detail is superb. I absolutely love listening to my music again . Hi Res has reignited my passion.
I bought these headphones to use for 24 track recording and they are just excellent. I have previously had inaccuracies in sound replication between headphones and the professional out-put reference monitors I use.
These headphones were exactly what I was looking for - simple, practical design with no compromise in sound! They come with a durable bag to protect them when you're out and about and two 3.5mm audio cables.
The Sony MDR-1A sound awesome with my sont PHA-1a and my sony NW-ZX100HN walkman. The sound is crisp and clear and the headphones are comfortable. The price is ok and won't break your wallet.
