With the HT-A9, Sony has been thinking completely out of the box, and solved a major problem in home theater sound. Namely the placement of the speakers. And as it works!

Giant, seamless sound image. A really big holographic bubble of sound. Balanced and resolved sound image. Not as dependent on speaker placement as other systems.

We definitely recommend the subwoofer, which increases the price a bit. The center channel on film was first really precise together with a Sony OLED TV of the latest kind.

Sony’s wireless HT-A9 setup uses psychoacoustics to create a dome of sound with a dozen “phantom” speakers with surprisingly convincing results.

Delivers a level of immersive sound that other soundbars can't, Flexibility in speaker placement, Easy to setup and use, Speakers take up very little space, Living room friendly design blends in with most decours, Sounds just as good with music as it does with movies and games

Wireless interference might be an issue for some rooms, Wireless sub should really be included with the package, All four speakers require a power outlet

The additional sub is pricey, Slightly bright with stereo music, Appearance is a bit bland
The Sony HT-A9 is perfectly placed for someone looking for a better sound solution than a soundbar, but who isn't quite ready to invest in a full-fledged home theatre system. The wireless communication between the speakers and the base unit works flawlessly and support for all kinds of audio formats...

Expensive compared to buying a soundbar, Doesn’t come with a subwoofer, Doesn’t work well with high or vaulted ceilings
While we haven’t spent enough time with the Sony HT-A9 Home Theater System to give a definitive verdict, what we’ve seen (and heard) so far is very impressive indeed. Using clever sound optimization and psychoacoustic techniques, the system consists of wireless speakers (real and imaginary) that are...

More expensive than most soundbars, Not suitable for very small homes
These speakers with the Sony SW5 Sub are amazing for Atmos movies.Good for music and easy to sync your phone or TV.These 4 front firing and 4 up-firing speakers exceeded my expectations. My dad said as he sat in my living room listening to a movie it sounds better than the movie theater.
I am delighted with this product. Sony has always been good and at the forefront, and this set is revolutionary in the field of home theatre.
The HT-A9 is a fantastic system. I’ve had it a few months now and am more sad overall.A few improvements could be made however that would make it a truly must own product.1, The height channels could have more oomph we have a relatively low ceiling and some of the effects come off as muddled,...
Even with our odd shaped room, the auto setup left us with really great sound. I'm impressed with the fullness of the sound. The sub is probably necessary. We used the HT-A9 for a couple days till the sub arrived, and it did sound good. The sub does help a great deal with the low end.

Extremely easy to set up and sounds amazing
I've been having a very fun and immersive time playing PS5 games and watching various movies. Playing music is also quite enjoyable filling up the whole room nicely, but as expected tonally, especially the midrange, it's a notable step down from my previous 2.1 setup with my KEF floorstanding...

Super easy to set up and very flexible speaker placement. No speaker cables makes the room a lot tidier. Well priced even after adding the sub, for a faux 7.1.4 system.

Just having 1 HDMI input is a bummer. No subwoofer out so you're forced to buy Sony's wireless subwoofer.
the sound is amazing. but one has to definitely get the subwoofer to fully experience what this system is capable off. the packaging was very bad for the price i paid but so far this has amazed me.
