Sony's FE 70-200mm f4G OSS was the first telephoto zoom for its full-frame mirrorless cameras and remains one of the best options for fairly close range action. The f4 aperture may not deliver as much (or as attractive) blurring as the FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM, nor will its focal length reach as far as...
Useful telephoto range with high quality images., Compatible with full-frame and APSC mirrorless bodies., Quick and very quiet focusing., Dust and moisture sealed., Comes supplied with tripod collar, hood and pouch.
Some may prefer an f2.8 version for speed and DOF., Bokeh rendering can look a little busy., Slightly softer at 200mm end of the range.
The Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS is a sharp zoom lens for Sony's full-frame mirrorless system, although it doesn't deliver the f/2.8 aperture that many photographers desire.
Image stabilization. Very sharp. Full-frame coverage. Includes hood and tripod collar.
Some distortion. Large. Not an f/2.8 zoom
At first I was a little concerned about the size of the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lens, worrying that it would dwarf the Alpha 7R. However, while it certainly is not the smallest of lenses, it pairs well with the Alpha 7 cameras, offering a good compromise between size, weight and portability.
Specification Every full frame system offers a 70-200mm (or thereabouts) lens, usually f/2.8. These are, however, quite large and heavy and one of the perceived advantages of the Sony Alpha 7 system is its compact nature.
The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS is an excellent telephoto zoom lens for Sony's full-frame compact system cameras. It delivers outstanding sharpness in the centre of the frame almost throughout its entire aperture and zoom range, even performing well wide-open at f/4, although you'll need to stop down...
Overall image quality isn't quite as good as from most competing lenses on test, which is disappointing considering the price.
I am a professional photographer in transition from Nikon to Sony. I still use my Nikon equipment on certain things but I use the Sony on the majority of my shoots. If you have a Sony E-mount full frame camera ( I have the Sony A7RII) then this is the lens for you.
will be my standard out door lens
Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction
In low lighting, this lens hunts for focus for too long!
Great lens for capturing anything from outdoor events to indoor long distance shooting.
Great IQ and build quality.
The screws that hold the bayonet on (and therefore support the weight of the lens) connect to the main frame through tiny plastic sleeves. Not a robust design at all. Also there's a cyan cast that I don't care for.
