The FE 400mm f2.8 GM OSS is the first super-telephoto for Sony's full-frame Alpha mirrorless system and finally allows them to pitch it as a serious rival to Canon and Nikon for pro sports and wildlife photographers.
8 Support for this feature is currently only planned for the α9. The maximum continuous shooting speed of an α9 body fitted with the FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS will be 20 fps at F11 and larger, and 10 fps at F13 and smaller (Latest α9 software, “Hi” continuous shooting mode, focus priority, 1/125 or...
Lightweight, responsive and with some great handling attributes, the FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS is the lens you've been waiting for if you're a sports or nature photographer shooting on Sony Alpha cameras.
Lightweight for a 400mm f/2.8, Very fast focusing speeds, Backgrounds nicely defocused, Customizable ring
Not cheap, You'll still need to use a monopod
I've used the RRS (and Kirk) replacement feet on both Nikon and Canon lenses, and normally they are pretty well designed. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the LCF-101 foot for the Sony 100-400mm GM lens - it's much longer than it needs to be, making it almost as heavy as the stock Sony foot...
Pros:- Attaches directly to your tripod head and removes the need for a plate. Fewer parts and lower center of gravity results in a sturdier setup.- Lighter than the stock version- Longer so it easier to carry
Perfect for landscape work. I use this on GM 70-200 with 2x extender and it does its job well. I wish the length of the base was a bit shorter.
Really Right Stuff makes no-compromise gear. When you want high quality, solid build, and excellent functionality that will last virtually for ever, RRS is the answer.
I bought this for my Sony 70-210 GM, since I needed to be able to put on a tripod, I was happy to see that RRS made this foot, super easy to use and to replace existing foot on the lens. A bit expensive but for me it was a great accessory.
It sucks a bit that the foot that comes with the Sony 70-200mm f2.8 lens isnt Arca compatible. While you can easily attach a plate to it, I decided it was bulkier than I wanted, so I bought this RRS replacement.
Same superb fit and finish as all Really Right Stuff products. Easy to install and rock solid. It is longer then the original foot it replaces. Functionally, the added length allows for balance adjustments when using a gimbal head and better "purchase" when carrying the lens.
Fits perfect. As other reviewers pointed, the plate is too long, but I doesn't interfere with handling the lens.
As with all RRS products, the fit and finish are perfect. What I didn't expect is that though this foot is significantly longer than the original piece that it replaces, it is lighter.
Top quality in design, fit and finish.
