Sony's new lens is an ultra-wide zoom for full frame E mount cameras, although it can also be used on the APS-C format bodies, where it becomes an equivalent 18-36mm. In either case, this is a powerful and useful range.

I put it on my A7RM2 and is AWESOME handheld or on tripod. No softness at sides or vignetting even in dim to dark light like a sunset or city night shot. I have been using the SEL1018 in full frame mode for two years (great lens but some corrections in post are needed) and this lens is a great buy...
I was looking for a wide angle zoom that didn't break the bank. I hesitated with this lens as it was a f/4 and I worried that it would come up short in low light. It performed wonderfully.

This is an outstanding lens for 99.9% of photographers who want a UWA for Sony mirrorless. However, the distortion is significant. This distortion is hugely reduced by the lens profiles available in Adobe products. Almost everyone will love this lens.
The FE 12-24mm f/4 G replaced my beloved EF 14mm f/2.8L II. I started my move from Canon to Sony in August 2017. Even though my 14mm functioned very well on my Sony bodies, the adapter that I used didn't allow eye-detection and a few other focus modes that the G and GM Sony lenses can provide.
Great lens but I dont find myself using it as much as I thought primarily since I dont have the patience for landscapes .
For its size, weight and sharpness, it is an amazing value. However it doesn't handle flare all that well. But if you want a compact, ultra-wide zoom in an E Mount, this is the one. It is very sharp corner to corner. Distortion is well corrected in Adobe lens profiles for Lightroom.
This len is amazing! It's lighter than my 24-70mm GM! It is lighter than Canon 11-24mm L F4! Image quality is amazing and sharp!
Let me first get out of the way my only complaint: light flares.... Closer to my 10-18 Sony than my Zeiss Loxia 21. If this lens handled light flares like my Loxia, it would be a 5+ star lens.That aside this lens is in every way a huge upgrade over my Sony 10-18 f4.
I really liked my 16-35, but I felt like I just needed to get a little more wide. I always edit in LR so I was able to fix some of the distortion but I shoot a lot of first-person stuff and this basically turns my A7RII into the worlds best gopro.
