Battery life is a little short, lack of an included external battery charger makes it more difficult to keep spare batteries ready to go, $1,500 price tag is very steep

The Sony RX10 III is an update to Sony's high-end Bridge Super-zoom which retains the RX10 II's 1 inch 20 Megapixel sensor, 4k video, super-slow motion modes, electronic viewfinder and its flip-up 3-inch screen.

3 July 2017

In 2015, Sony presented their second version of a high-end compact camera with a one-inch-type sensor and an 8.3x zoom that offered a lot of professional functions. This year the company announced an equivalent camera, but with an ultra-zoom lens.

Compared to its peers, the RX10 III is the best all-around bridge camera on the market. The 1"-type stacked CMOS sensor offers the same (that is, very good) performance as its predecessor, while the new lens reaches from a wide angle of 24mm all the way to 600mm without any real optical compromises.

Sony created the large-sensor, long-zoom camera segment, and now it provides its object of desire. The Sony RX10 III is a bright-lensed, beautifully-built DSLR alternative with triple the zoom reach of its sibling, the RX10 II.

  • +

Versatile all-in-one replacement for a DSLR or mirrorless camera; Great handling and build; Excellent image quality; Spectacular zoom reach; Swift performance with generous buffer depths; Extremely capable video capture; Comprehensive remote control; Quick-and-easy image sharing

  • -

Extremely expensive for a fixed-lens camera; Fairly heavy for fixed-lens camera; Somewhat soft in the corners at wide-angle or tele; Noise reduction intrudes at higher sensitivities; No built-in ND filter; Not as fast when shooting raws; Slow buffer clearing

There are a lot of digital cameras currently available that offer similar photo as well as video capability, with the exception of 4K video capturing, in many cases. However, we found that it’s lacking in very few areas including the ability to record in stereo sound while filming slow motion...

The RX10 III’s real attributes, however, lie with its photo skills. Because of its large sensor, the camera’s incredibly long zooming capabilities produce surprisingly good still image quality.

20 October 2016

The RX10 III is a worthy addition to Sony's Cyber-shot line-up and will be more of a companion model to the RX10 II than an actual replacement. If you're looking for a premium, long zoom camera with a larger than average (12.8 x 9.6 mm) sensor and 4K movie recording capabilities, it's well worth a...

I love this camera despite a few drawbacks. This is the most versatile camera I have ever owned. One lens does it all, and very well. I like to do urban street photography, and this lens puts me anywhere I want to be with stunning results at all focal lengths, and in all lighting conditions.

Wow! Far exceeded my expectations. It has been reviewed along with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000, so prior to purchasing this camera I rented the Lumix 1000 for a month in the interest of saving money. From my point of view, there is NO COMPARISON.

To get the most from the camera and to make your photography both easy and fun again, the menu System needs to be set CAREFULLY. Once done, it is a pure joy to use and it is easy. Great photos are possible with little effort.

I purchased the camera to shoot the 2017 Eclipse in 4K video. A picture is worth a thousand words. The RX10 has a huge range of exposure settings. I couldn't be happier with the results achieved shooting the eclipse.

I was sure I would never again buy a camera that weighed more than my previous Sony. But to get 4K video and a sealed camera, I had to give in. The camera bag makes it tolerable to hang around my neck. I use the zoom factor for binoculars on my daily hikes.
