The Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 offers a great combination of still and video quality, thanks to its one-inch sensor and 24-200 F2.8 lens. Its focus is as much about video as stills, and the RX10 offers more controls in that respect than virtually any other camera.

  • +

Very good photo quality, especially when shooting Raw, Top-notch video quality, Excellent and flexible 24-200mm equiv. F2.8 lens, Solid, weather-sealed body, Many tools for shooting video: focus peaking, zebra pattern, step-less aperture ring, Responsive AF in good light, Fast continuous shooting...

  • -

Pricey, JPEG images are over-sharpened and over-processed, Video bit rates not competitive with best digital cameras, Autofocus can be hesitant, especially in low light; AF improves when assist lamp is turned off, Camera 'locks up' while buffer is clearing after continuous shooting, Manual focus can...

We began this review with the conundrum every DSLR owner confronts – dealing with myriad lenses and shoulder-breaking gear bags – and whether there is a high-quality, portable solution for these issues. The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 is it and it deserves our Editor’s Choice designation.

  • +

Excellent stills and videos, Great f/2.8 constant aperture, High-quality EVF

  • -

Expensive, heavy (for a bridge camera), No touchscreen LCD, Would love a longer zoom

Conventional wisdom says that if you want the best pictures, you want interchangeable lenses. The Sony RX10 turns that theory on its head, substituting the interchangeable lenses for just the one fixed lens -- but what a great optic it is!

  • +

Smaller than SLR/CSC with comparable lenses; Larger sensor than other bridge cameras; SLR-like body without the hassle of changing lenses; Weather-sealed; Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture; Generous zoom range; Great viewfinder; Swift performance; Plenty of enthusiast-friendly features including raw...

  • -

Expensive compared to other bridge cameras; Menus respond slowly after burst shooting; Lens doesn't zoom very quickly; High ISO performance doesn't quite match RX100 II., Much less portable than RX100 and RX100 II, Expensive compared to other bridge cameras, Slow menu response after burst shooting...

Sony is bringing zoom to the popular sensor of the RX100--but it comes at a cost. Can the RX10 super zoom live up to its price tag?

Point-and-shoots are dying because all they offer is better quality — and it seems no one cares about better quality when they’re just cropping things to a square and putting them on Instagram.

  • +

Versatile, sharp lens, Solid picture quality, even in low light, Incredibly easy to learn and operate

  • -

Expensive, Bulky, Enough autofocus problems to be worrisome

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 is a bridge-style camera that gets just about everything right, and its steep asking price reflects its impeccable quality.

The Sony RX10 is a very unique camera because of its awesome 16-200mm constant f2.8 lens — that pretty much sums it up. There is nothing quite like it. This makes it very difficult to replicate its optical functionality with other camera systems, especially within the $1300 envelope.

With all the attention given to smartphone photography and interchangeable lens systems for both mirrorless and digital SLRs, it is easy to overlook another type of camera – the bridge camera.

I was surprise at how light the body is when I picked it up. I was expecting it to have more of a mirrorless or DSLR feel to it; however, it’s really just plastic housing holding the guts of a RX100.

The 1-inch sensor premium compact camera market is growing at a rapid pace. In fact, today, nearly every major brand has interesting offerings including Canon, Nikon, Sony and Panasonic.

As a 30 year plus professional photographer I was looking for a bridge camera as the arthritis in my back and hips was making my bag of Dslr and prime lenses just to heavy to hike and ski with. Although this is not a DSLR level camera my gallery sales have not skipped a beat.

I'm really thrilled with this camera. It's got a good lens, I've done some exciting macro work in low light and I am really pleased with how true it is. I've also taken it on vacation and just snapped photos in the auto mode in all sorts of conditions--bright sunlight and deep shadows, nighttime,...

This is the only camera I considered-after considerable research-for a pack light trip to the UK. The website - dpreview - is very positive on it. The Carl Zeiss 20-200 mm lens at 2.8 throughout the range was what originally attracted me. Sony is spot on with their cameras.

  • +

    Fast GlassWide zoom range.

  • -

No AC adapter and external battery charger. I bought one and an extra battery.

This is a quick review that will get right to the point - this camera takes great photos. I continue to be amazed at the results. The camera body itself is surprisingly compact although reviews call it 'large.' In fact it's very small considering the 24-200 2.8 zoom.

wonderful camera, complete with everything you need, nothing is missing, difficult to find flaws; zoom of high quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-200mm. Diaphragm 2.8 constant throughout the zoom range; camera quite manageable, practical, fast and with exceptional needed results; magnesium alloy...

the batteries are cost and do not last long; the rotatable display switches too easily into place viewfinder
