The Sony BDP-S1700 Blu-Ray player is Sony's entry-level model for 2016, yet it still includes support for the Sony Entertainment network, giving you access to a range of Smart TV services, including the BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and YouTube.
The jury is still out but so far I'll give it 4 stars; Setup was easy and the picture is very good. However it froze a couple of days ago, it wouldn't respond to the remote or the manual on/off switch. I unplugged it for 15 seconds, plugged it back in and it's been good since.

Set up, Picture quality, ease of use.

Unsure of reliability.
Just now set the Sony Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-S1700. Cable connections to TV and AV receiver were easy and I was able to play a DVD fairly quickly. Audio and video quality are great. But remote does not control TV Volume and wireless network connection doesn't work either.
Have not tried the machine yet but I assume that it works. The low rating is due to the specs that were written up for this unit. Specs say that it has composite video output along with coax and HDMI. It only has coax and HDMI. I was buying this for an older TV so needed the composite video output.
I needed a small Blu-ray player for our basement rec room for kids to watch Pixar movies on. This simple player fit the bill. I didnt want to pay for WiFi or any extras as we already have a Roku down there. I appreciate simple things that simply work and this S1700 is just that.
The blue ray player is great. Fantastic quality great picture quality. I love the fact that's it's so compact don't let the size fool you it plays blue ray and DVD and optimum quality. The only place I trust to purchase all my electronics is Brandmart they have never let me down.

It is so small and light weight, I was concern about its performance. it does a great job and I highly recommend this product.

Nice little blu ray player. I use it mostly to broadcast Pandora around my 10 acres, in the ca bin, shop, greenhouse and gardens. A little slow on power saving start up, but I'm retired and happy with it.

Slow start up on power saving mode
I bought this to replace an old VCR/DVD player. It's easy to use, but for some reason I cannot play just my TV when the DVD player is hooked up. The TV won't change channels or even turn off when it's hooked up. I just unplug the cables from the back of the player until I want to play a DVD.
