The Sony a7 III is an entry-level full-frame camera that goes well beyond the basics in features, with excellent image quality, 10fps subject tracking, and 4K video capture.

  • +

24MP full-frame BSI sensor. 10fps with tracking. 5-axis stabilization. 4K HDR video. Silent shooting available. Tilting touch LCD. Dual SD slots. Vastly improved battery. Focus joystick. Flat profiles available.

  • -

Screen not true vari-angle. Only one card slot is UHS-II. No in-body flash. Accessory required for time-lapse. Shooting buffer must clear to start video. Dense menu system. Omits PC sync socket.

The Sony a7 III is a well-priced, well-rounded camera suitable for all kinds of photography. Twenty-four megapixels of resolution is more than sufficient for most tasks, and the 693-point autofocus system and 10 frames-per-second burst speed help the a7 III keep up with fast action.

  • +

Generalist photographers, wedding, event and action shooters and those that need high quality video.

  • -

Those that need more resolution for detailed scenes or large prints, those that need ultimate build quality for harsh shooting conditions.

Neither the fastest nor highest resolution, the A7 III is still be best all-around full-frame camera.

  • +

Excellent still image quality, Excellent 4K video, 10 FPS continuous shooting, Significantly improved battery life, Best value in its class

  • -

Slightly heavier than mark II model

The Sony Alpha A7 III is a highly versatile and feature-packed camera that redefines what we can expect from a full-frame body at this price point. It delivers crisp and satisfying images from its 24 Megapixel full-frame sensor, captures good-looking 4k video in either full-frame or cropped APSC...

Sony’s 24.2-megapixel A7 III is a near-perfect all-around mirrorless camera. You can fire bursts at 10 fps, capture sharp images with excellent dynamic range day or night, and autofocus accurately on fast-moving subjects or portraits.

  • +

Stellar low-light/high ISO capability, Much-improved handling, Fast 10 fps shooting, Excellent autofocus, Sharpest 4K video of any Sony full-frame camera, Double the battery life of the last model

  • -

EVF and viewfinder not quite as good as rivals, Two SD card slots but only one is high-speed UHS-II, Not as weather-resistant as the Fujifilm’s X-H1, No 10-bit video output like Panasonic’s GH5s

Simply put, the Sony A7 III is the finest example of the most affordable full-frame camera on the market. It’s a sensational camera for the money and compliments the ever-evolving Sony A7-series quite brilliantly.

  • +

Excellent value for money, Improved battery stamina, Fast and responsive autofocus system, Revised button layout for intuitive control

  • -

AF point illumination could be improved, Convoluted menu system, Thin plastic port covers aren’t weather-sealed, Handles poorly with large gloves in cold climates

The Alpha A7 III is a brilliant camera that ticks a lot of boxes for many photographers. Sony has taken some of the best bits from its flagship Alpha A9 and A7R III, and distilled them into a single camera that offers a fantastic mix of performance and image quality.

  • +

693-point AF system, 10fps burst shooting, Uncropped 4K video, 15-stop dynamic range, 5-axis image stabilization, Compact and durable body

  • -

Limited touchscreen control, Only one SD slot supports UHS-II cards, Slight 'tearing' in EVF, Poor weather-sealing round accessory ports

Sony referred to the A7 III as a "basic model" during their early promotion, whether jokingly or not, but the A7 III is far from being basic. Indeed, it's so well-specced on paper that it surprised a lot of people who weren't expecting such a well-appointed camera, and thankfully that promise has...

Ever since I've got my A7 III, I find myself grabbing A7 III more often than my A7R III.For the most part, I think A7R III's resolution is absolute overkill and only needed for specific purposes.

Coming from a previous model (A7II) this Camera (A7III) supersedes my expectations. The dynamic range is phenomenal. Performs superbly in low light situations. The Battery Life Is totally better than any other previous Sony camera I have ever owned. I would highly recommend this camera.

After shooting more than half a million images on Canon DSLR cameras, I just switched to the new Sony A7 III. Reading early reviews of the A7 III got me really curious last month. Tests came in an I was sold.

Ive had a great run with my original A7 but have long felt that I could use certain AF, sensor and interface refinements once they fall within my price range. Thats what this A7iii is all about.

I had the GH4 in 2014 for the 4K but the AF and low-light bothered me so I got the a6300 in 2015; loved that so I got the a6500 and waited for the GH5 which was disappointing so I waited for the a7III.

This is a good camera but it does not come with a wall charger. I am canon user and i never realized Sony can cut the cost like this until i open the box. I purchased a third party charger as charging in camera is really not user friendly and i dont want to risk the camer motherboard.

Gorgeous stills and amazing autofocus in video. I always trust that it is in focus and it hasn't let me down yet. This is the best value in full frame for 2018.

This Sony A7III is a wonderful camera. It's almost like magic when it just knows how to create the perfect exposure...even at night. The sensor resolution seems adequate and the larger pixels allow more light in hence the incredible night shooting capability.

This camera isn't perfect, but it's very good at a lot of things. First, the sensor is just incredible. It produces detailed, extremely low noise, very colorful images. The AF system is pretty darn good too.
