While the A5000 does feature a host of improvements on the camera it replaces – namely the NEX-3N – there are still areas at which it is slightly let down.
Wi-fi addition; Improved metering; Low price tag
Poor LCD screen; Noise reduction too aggressive at times
The Sony A5000 is an upper entry-level compact system camera with a 20.1 Megapixel APS-C sensor. It replaces the NEX-3N, the company having now dropped the NEX label. Sony describes the A5000 as being the World's smallest, lightest interchangeable lens camera with built-in Wifi - that's the case for...
Excellent image quality., Low sensor noise levels., Compact, lightweight body., Articulated screen., Built-in Wifi with NFC., Downloadable apps.
No built-in viewfinder or optional accessory., No touch-screen., No hotshoe / accessory port., Very limited customisation options.
With its 20.1MP APS-C sensor and $499 kit price, the Sony Alpha A5000 is a no-brainer recommendation. This would be an excellent move for those of leaving the land of compacts for an interchangeable lens camera. That said the A5000 does have its limitations as we’ve detailed.

Sony a5000 review: Sony’s beginner CSC adds Wi-Fi and a better processor, but is it enough? Find out in our Sony a5000 review video. The Sony a5000 was the fourth compact system camera from Sony to appear after the company decided to drop its NEX name for E-mount cameras.
Sony's A5000 targets entry-level users for the mirrorless bandwagon.
I bought this for my 14 year old daughter thinking she might get bored with it so I could then use it as a back up to my Nikon gear.. so that finally happended and I find myself carrying the Sony around daily. Its light, easy to use and has great battery life.
Easy to Use, Good Battery Life, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Small / Compact
Lag / Shutter Delay
Fast and reliable camera with great image quality and features. Basic lens is limited in it's ability to zoom, but it's great knowing we can purchase a different lens if needed. We're very happy with this purchase.
Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Great Resolution, Large Clear LCD, Small/Compact
limited zoom with standard lens.
I love all the little extras but dig threw in with the camera. 3 different filters to choose from, a carrying bag, and microSB to hdmi cable, lens cleaning ♥♥♥♥, screen covers, a 32 gb memory card and more !
Hard to get used to. There are many different modes that will change your picture a lot. Also little settings to change make your picture a lot different.
Great camera that takes awesome quality photos and has a ton of options. Purchased for my mom who is not the most tech savvy person but this cameras easy to use functions and large display screen and easy menus has her excited about photography and she can't put it down
Easy to use, quick to learn, great for entry level or people wanting a small powerful unit
No view finder, screen only aiming, which isn't so bad unless it's really bright outside or you catch a glare on the screen. Stock lens could use a little more zoom.
Fantastic camera and I love that you can have a camera with a flip up lcd. It is great for the price and being you can find many lenses out there, it is tough to be for the price. Fantastic photos and great for picking up audio as well.
Great camera for backpacking! Not much heavier than my point-and-shoot, but takes pictures like an SLR.
Small, Lightweight, Dependable, Veratile
Not waterproof, Extra lenses add weight
Excellent camera. Easy to learn. Great focus, fast shooting, good zoom, perfect skin tones. A light, compact yet powerful camera. It does everything I need.
I like my ilce-5000. Good choice. Light weight, easy use. With two battery pack I use to long time. Pix quality is very nice in this category. My ex cam a Sony HX300 is pure quality to my ilce5000. HX300 and a5000 dame are 20Mpixel.
Much more lightweight camera than I anticipated! Excellent!
