The Sony 85mm f/2.8 SAM ( SAL-85F28 ) is an impressive lens when used on APS-C DSLRs - at least with respect to its optical capabilities. The lens is extremely sharp across the frame from f/2.8 to f/8. Diffraction is a limiting factor beyond.
Sony has done a great job with this lens. I own a 85mm f/1.4 CZ and I would say this lens is very comparable to it's more noble brother. Pictures are very similar, if not just as sharp.
Consistent Output, Image quality, Lightweight, Sharp
Plastic construction, Slow Focus, Weak Casing
I liked the lens, very good and if you don't have a 50mm lens this one would certainly be a great option. For me I prefer a 50 mm 1.4 lens over this one, however, the cost is double so factor in cost and need and with this one you certainly have a little more distance from your subject over a 50mm.
Considering the optical performance and the price, I could not think of a CON. This is an amazing lens! It covers the FF sensors, but it is the same size as Sony's own 35/1.8 DT lens.
Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh
