This telephoto zoom lens for use with Sony A-mount cameras and adapters sports an improved silent focusing motor that should focus noticeably faster than its predecessor and a new Nano AR coating, which promises to reduce ghosting and flare.
This full-framer boasts topdrawer materials, solid construction, flawless optics and fast, silent autofocus. The street price, $1,600, is high-end, too. Made for Sony's Alpha 900, it scales up to 105-600mm on bodies with APSsize sensors.
I bought this lens as an upgrade to my sal70300g lens to give me a little more length for wildlife photography. I am very pleased with this lens. It is sharper at 400mm than the 70300g is at 300mm and less and I think the 70300g is an excellent lens. The color and contrast is great.
Bought this lens to replace an 80-200 f2.8 and 300mm f2.8 from my film days and to complement my Sony SAL 16-50 so that with these two lenses I can travel much lighter than previously. I wanted the extra reach of the 400mm end and the tripod collar so did not opt for the lighter 70-300.
Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
Heavy, No Zoom Lock
It's hard to say that I believe a lens is not up to all the high praise it receives when so many people seem so happy with it, but that's my situation. I have spent a week shooting birds as well as just ordinary snaps around the garden with my new Sony 70-400 G2 on my trusty A77ii.
This is the best 70-400mm lens in the market. The focus is sharp even with full aperture at 400mm ,no another lens can compare. The G2 is much faster AF and less hunt . The contrast , sharpness and bokeh same better than the previous one too.I highly recommend this lens for serious wildlife and bird...
