The lens fills a real need in the Sony full frame E mount range. Handling is excellent, performance is very good throughout, albeit tailing off at the edges as we zoom in. However, it is rather pricey at the current level.
Generally very good sharpness, Central CA almost eliminated, Ease of use, OSS system, Well made, Unique focal length for E mount
Edges soften as we zoom in, Edge CA high, High price
I love this lens. It's teamed up with the new Sony A6300 and I am getting much better results than I could get from the Canon 7D with the old Canon 400 prime. It's all about it being lighter and OSS on the 70-300.
I got this lens to complement my SONY16-50MM f/2.8 on my A77M2. I mainly use it for nature photography. The construction is a perfect balance of weather-sealed solid construction without being too heavy to carry along on hikes. (Of course f/2.8 would be better, but imagine the weight!
The 70-300mm G lens is a beautiful zoom. Pictures are sharp as a tack across the focal length and aperture. I use it both on mt a77 and a850 with wonderful results. The only draw back is the weight, it's pretty heavy.
Rugged design, fast focus, superior image quality
Considering maker, it's very high quality. Pictures are as expected quite high quality. It's hard to know if these high quality lens are that much better for everyday pictures.
