Most camera marques now have an inexpensive 50mm lens in their ranges. These are often described as “nifty fifties” or "plastic fantastics", the implication being that they are cheap and cheerful, but often superb performers as well.
It’s no secret that the Alpha 7 series of full-frame compact system cameras (CSC) has been a runaway success for Sony. By providing excellent image quality in a package that’s smaller and more portable than any comparable full-frame DSLR, it has become one of the most popular of the new breed of...
The appeal of the inexpensive fast 50mm “standard lens” is easy to appreciate and this Sony lens has much to recommend it. However, the edges are relatively soft and the price maybe a tad too high. Time will no doubt settle the latter point.

Excellent central sharpness, Low central CA, Very easy to use effectively, Direct manual focus feature, No flare issues

AF slow, Visible edge CA, Fairly soft edges
It is a bit difficult to come to a conclusion about the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. It has its moments but there's also darkness. The resolution characteristic is fairly solid. The outer image field is very soft at large apertures but to be fair - your main subject tends to be near the image center so it's...
This lens has been a long time coming for full-frame E-mount cameras, and it certainly makes a welcome addition to Sony’s lens line-up if you’re in the market for a fast, well-priced standard prime that offers excellent image quality.
The Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS is a more than welcome addition to the (rather slim) Sony NEX lens lineup. Technically it is not without flaws. It delivers a very sharp center performance but the corners/borders are soft at large apertures. However, considering the typical applications (e.g.
Great image quality from a wide-aperture standard prime lens, but the autofocus speed lets it down.

The Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 gives the first-time, full-frame mirrorless user a clearer picture (no pun intended) of what his a7-series camera can achieve. The lens allows astounding light transmission (T-stop) of T1.8, matching its advertised F-stop; rival lenses like the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G has a...

Couldn't find any
This is much better then the kit lens in sharpness and details. I would buy it again.

The f1.8 lets in a lot of light. That makes the lens very fast to focus in normal light. Great for portraits and flower shoots with tight depth of field. Very sharp lens. In manual focus on the a6000 it is unbelievable focus control on Zoom.

It is prices. Fixed focal length.
You can't beat this prime lens - creamy bokeh and sharp subjects, its the all-around can't-miss lens you've been looking for. Lightning quick autofocus, tank-like bulid... this lens absolutely has it all.

Creamy bokeh, great build, fast focus

Slightly more expensive than Canon and Nikon's offerings with the same specs...
this is perfect when you only need one lense and you are on the go.

Easy To Use, Lightweight, Reliable
I read reviews explaining this was a great lens, but I was now prepared for how great. I've had it for 4 months, and it is a dream to work with. The images look great even wide open, and I love the bokeh effect.

no focus distance indicator
Probably a little over priced despite having the built in image stabilization. But otherwise, it is a very sharp lens. Fast focusing and unlike legacy lenses it is actually made for the E-mount which means auto focus and internal aperture control with the steadyshot.
I agree the AF is not reliable, but on center focus it's not bad. As a manual lens it KILLS. Especially since my A7ii has focus peaking. Lens is feather light and focus ring has a smooth feel. AF does seem to work better in brighter light.
