The Sony Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II is very much evolution rather than revolution, sharing the vast majority of its design, build and components with the original 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM. However that’s no bad thing, as this lens already performed superbly.
I had the same issue as Pathguy where the AF motor unexpectedly failed, except mine failed 4 months after warranty. :( I sent it to Precision which was the Sony authorized repair (from the Sony site), and they charged me 850 to repair the motor.

I have Sony cameras since the days of Cybershot and now have stuck with it all the way through to Alpha 99ii. Taking my pictures more serious than ever, I see no reason to change other that there is no magazine support and I have to seek out people like Gary Fong or Tony Northrup to keep my right at...
Amazing lens, much improved than the first version. I bought it to use with my sony A7rii with LAEA3 adapter and the results are simply stunning. I did comparison with the new G master lens and i liked this one in terms of color and sharpness are identical .
i bought this lens directly from sony and have used it for 5 months. i use it on sony a7rii using la-ea3 adapter and sony a77ii. the images are very sharp and i have been happy with the shots. AF works well until it failed after 5 months during a photo shoot without any cause.
A perfect companion to the Alpha99, a weighty piece of kit but that's the trade off for the quality. This is now my standard lens.
