The Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS broke a couple of records but unfortunately not in the positive sense. Its uncorrected distortion and vignetting figures are nothing short of insane. So Sony obviously doesn't want the lens to be used without enabled aberration compensation.
I've got this attached to my a6000. I wanted it for video.. and a few wide angle shots to complement my SEL35F18. Sometimes the focus is spot on, and it looks quite good. In many photos it looks weird. Not really out of focus, but not in focus either. It's just muddy. It distorts like crazy.
Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
Blurry Focus, Poor in Low Light, Weak Casing
It's a kit lens, and therefore expecting to measure it against dedicated lens offerings is unrealistic. As is, the lens performs very well in real world situations. Outdoor shots are sharp and detailed across it's entire range.
Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
405 Mm Filter Size, Battery drain, Not The Quietest
This is the kit lens for the A6000, I found it convenient and sharp enough for my street photographyTogether with the camera house it is a very portable combo I can have nearly always with me.
I preordered it a couple of months ago and it just arrived from Sony.ca this week. The images produced by the lens (except when zoomed in all the way) have some of the worst distortion and barreling I have seen.
Small and compact
Distortion. Almost unusable on older NEX5.
