The Sony DT 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM offers a high-end specification at a price which won't break the bank
This high-speed, standard-range, Alpha-mount utility zoom scales up to the full-frame equivalent of a 24–75mm on Sony APS-C bodies. When it was introduced with Sony’s remarkable Alpha 77 in mid-2011, Sony insiders referred to the 16–50mm f/2.8 ($700, street) as the camera’s “non-kit kit lens,” and,...
No company has managed to produce a very good 16-50 mm f/2.8 class lens so far. Unfortunately Sony also failed here. It doesn’t mean that the Sony 16-50 mm f/2.8 SSM is a bad lens – I am far from saying such a thing.

Good build quality,, Very good image quality in the frame centre,, Low longitudinal chromatic aberration,, Decently corrected coma,, Negligible astigmatism,, Very quick and silent autofocus.

Weak image quality on the edge of the frame near the maximum relative aperture,, Significant chromatic aberration close the maximum relative aperture at both ends of focal range,, Vignetting which is not only high but also higher than that of the competitors,, High and complicated distortion at the...
Sony's DT 16-50mm f/2.8 SSM zoom lens was announced at the same time as the A77 and A65 camera bodies and features a dust- and moisture-resistant construction that has been designed to match the A77 body.
The Sony 16-50mm f/2.8 DT SSM doesn't deliver an absolutely flawless job on the NEX 7 but at optimal settings you can achieve very good if not impressive results across the image frame.
This is quite possibly the best 'kit' lens I've ever used! Great for long exposurelandscapes and sharp enough for wide aperture portraits. It has a decent bokeh and isrelatively quick focusing in both manual and auto-focus. It's built pretty solid too.
simply put...this lens was the reason that i went with the A77 (came coupled with camera body)...and i wasn't disappointed...fantastic sharp results and lightning quick focus...takes a little bit getting used to the weight, but you can't go wrong at all...worth every cent..

I like this lens a lot, it never comes off of my alpha 100, it is a way better lens than camera. It needs to be on at least an a700. It is fast accurate and well built. I got a real good deal on it, I did not pay retail. But for anyone looking for a new lens don't pass this one up.

Fast, color, build, DOF control.

Sometimes it searches more than I would like in low light, requires some post processing as far as some sharpening.
For APS-C shooters, this is perhaps THE BEST general-purpose lens ON ANY SYSTEM.

Constant (fast) f2.8. Outstanding optical and build quality.

Not for Sony full-frame.
I am glad that I had sold my sigma 18-50 lens and got this baby. - The quality is much better than the sigma's. - It's nice to have 3mm wider focal length (24mm equivalent compared to Sigma's 27mm equivalent) - SSM and parfocus makes it an amazing lens for videos
Great for Landscapes, performed fantastic even at -10 C
