This was a replacement unit for the same flash I purchased over a decade ago. When the tightening wheel that secures the flash to the hot-shoe broke, I considered buying a true ring flash to replace my old Sigma flash unit, but decided I wanted to maintain the same "look" to my intra-oral...
The flash does everything it says it can do. Love the manual mode flexibility
There is a myriad of functions this unit can do, but I am just going use the single flash. You can flash both, or either the right or left flash tube(s) which is menu electable on the control unit.
This product is used on my NIKON D300 with TAMRON 90mm Macro Lens. Used for flower, insect and other types of macro photography. So far has worked very well. Easy to use. Instruction manual was easy to follow. Easy and quick to set up on lens being used.
The EM-140 is a true ring FLASH. It's not an LED ring light as are most of the cheaper units which, in my opinion are suited for video but much less so for macro photography. My experience with the EM-140 so far is that while it is plastic it is a reasonably well made macro set-up that produces the...
Exposure algorithm is generally spot of, but runs a little bright in macro shots. Easy to fine tune it. Nice halo shadow for portraits or on macro shots with close background. No shadow with distant background. Very nice that is shoots one side at a time for texture shadows in macro mode.
The EM-140 was designed for macro work and is excellent for that. Great TTL lighting, compact, lightweight, simple to mount and use. If you're looking for a special effects portrait flash to achieve that crazy round catch light in the eyes, this is not your gadget.
Has worked well for the month I have used it. It does give reasonable color reproduction and no shadows from 1 to several feet. The coil cord is a little stiff and may hamper some autofocus lenses. A dust cap for the lens ring would be nice
The sigma Marco ring light flash is just what I was looking for. Using with nikon D810 with satisfying results.
I buy it severela years ago to work with my 7d and it works fine, but now i bought a 5D mkiv and it doesnt work at all ! my other sigma flash just works in manual with 1/200 synch this one not even in manual!
