The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) The terms of resolution it is plenty sharp at f/1.4 … across the image that is … and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6 really.
With impressive 85mm f/1.4 image quality in a beautiful, well built lens with autofocus and a reasonable price, this is the portrait lens that a lot of photographers have been waiting for.
Sigma continues to hit it out of the park with its lineup of Art lenses. The Sigma 85mm ƒ/1.4 DG HSM Art lens offers the sharpest 85mm lens we've seen, and it does it at about two-thirds the cost of its competitors. What's not to like?
Sigma has now well established the division of its lenses into Sport, Contemporary and Art. The Art range is aimed at the top end of the market, with lenses created to be masterful examples of the lens makers' art.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) In terms of resolution it is amazingly sharp at f/1.4 already and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6. Low lateral CAs are the cream on the cappuccino in terms of subjective quality perception.

The 85mm features a fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, working in perfect harmony with its 9 rounded diaphragm blades to produce beautiful bokeh in the out-of-focus areas.
I love this lens and have been using it for portrait photography for a few months now. The build quality is excellent on this piece of glass. A bit heavy in front, almost needs a tripod collar if you're using a tripod. The weight is enough to case my Manfrotto tripid head to sag.
decided to pick this one up after purchasing the 35mm Art. Picture quality from the lens is great. nice and sharp, focuses well (I don't track moving objects with this lens), and the bokeh is good. As many other reviews stated, the lens is heavy. I did not weigh it, as the specs can be looked up.
This lens is an absolute beast - in more ways than one! I use a Canon 5d Mark IV. First off, this lens is huge! For an 85, and being able to compare it to the Canon 85mm f1.8 and the Canon 85mm f1.4, this thing is still huge and heavy. However, this thing is also tack sharp!
As a professional photographer myself, this lens is the a beautiful piece of equipment to have. The speed that it has when focusing is very fast, no hiccups. Fits perfectly into my t6i. The quality of the material and the lens are ASTONISHING. Forever will be my favorite lens!
This lens produces extraordinary images. It is an important addition to the Art Series of lenses from Sigma. While this focal length is considered a portrait lens, this new lens is ideal for isolating individual subjects within a scene with the beautiful bokeh this lens produces.
All I can say is wow. This is by far the sharpest lens I’ve ever owned. I immediately noticed that day one. The auto-focus has be spot on and hasn’t given me any issues. Even with the aperture wide open at 1.4 its still sharp! And the bokeh.. OMG the bokeh!! Silky smooth.
I used the lens recently to get some holiday bokeh shots and it performed well. I went out at night and the lens focused quickly and accurately on my 77D even in low light. The only issue I ran into occasionally was the close focusing distance which is typical of other 85mm primes but still...
This is a good lens. Sadly, not quite great. When this lens hits the mark, the sharpness is simply amazing. However, it doesn't quite always hit the mark and that can be frustrating. High contrast shots (bright backgrounds on shadowed subjects) tend to confuse the auto-focus system.
When I first got the lens, I had to heavily adjust AF Fine Tuning on my D810 to get a sharper focus. However, I still wasn't happy with the focus. In the end, I bought a Sigma USB Dock and calibrated every segment of the lens. Now, it works beautifully and I'm actually excited to shoot with it.
Fabulous lens. As a working photographer I can endorse it without hesitation- this product has already paid for itself many times over. I do mainly street style and portraiture, but this lens can be the true workhorse of your kit if you need it to be.
