The Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art offers some incredible image quality for the price, with outstanding class leading sharpness, excellent subject isolation and bokeh performance. The F1.4 aperture makes it a fantastic choice for low-light events and portrait shooting.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) The terms of resolution it is plenty sharp at f/1.4 … across the image that is … and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6 really.

With impressive 85mm f/1.4 image quality in a beautiful, well built lens with autofocus and a reasonable price, this is the portrait lens that a lot of photographers have been waiting for.

Sigma continues to hit it out of the park with its lineup of Art lenses. The Sigma 85mm ƒ/1.4 DG HSM Art lens offers the sharpest 85mm lens we've seen, and it does it at about two-thirds the cost of its competitors. What's not to like?

Sigma has now well established the division of its lenses into Sport, Contemporary and Art. The Art range is aimed at the top end of the market, with lenses created to be masterful examples of the lens makers' art.

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art is awesome. Full stop. Albeit still not perfect. ;-) In terms of resolution it is amazingly sharp at f/1.4 already and the quality is breathtaking between f/2.8 and f/5.6. Low lateral CAs are the cream on the cappuccino in terms of subjective quality perception.

The 85mm features a fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, working in perfect harmony with its 9 rounded diaphragm blades to produce beautiful bokeh in the out-of-focus areas.

I imagine Zeiss must gnash their collective teeth quite strongly. They invented the Otus series which was supposed to prove that, for a quite astronomical price, you can produce an optically outstanding lens practically without any flaws.

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM is a very fast and tack-sharp lens, both in the centre and at the edges of the frame, with little evidence of chromatic aberrations and virtually no distortion.

I love this lens and have been using it for portrait photography for a few months now. The build quality is excellent on this piece of glass. A bit heavy in front, almost needs a tripod collar if you're using a tripod. The weight is enough to case my Manfrotto tripid head to sag.

This lens is an absolute beast - in more ways than one! I use a Canon 5d Mark IV. First off, this lens is huge! For an 85, and being able to compare it to the Canon 85mm f1.8 and the Canon 85mm f1.4, this thing is still huge and heavy. However, this thing is also tack sharp!

This lens produces extraordinary images. It is an important addition to the Art Series of lenses from Sigma. While this focal length is considered a portrait lens, this new lens is ideal for isolating individual subjects within a scene with the beautiful bokeh this lens produces.

I used the lens recently to get some holiday bokeh shots and it performed well. I went out at night and the lens focused quickly and accurately on my 77D even in low light. The only issue I ran into occasionally was the close focusing distance which is typical of other 85mm primes but still...

When I first got the lens, I had to heavily adjust AF Fine Tuning on my D810 to get a sharper focus. However, I still wasn't happy with the focus. In the end, I bought a Sigma USB Dock and calibrated every segment of the lens. Now, it works beautifully and I'm actually excited to shoot with it.
