The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art captures crisp images, opens up to f/1.4, and undercuts competing lenses on price.

  • +

Very sharp. Wide aperture. Attractive price. Available for multiple camera systems. Solid build quality. Eligible for mount conversion.

  • -

Heavy vignette effect. Omits image stabilization. Not the best option for ultra-high-resolution cameras.

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is a truly excellent lens, that performs as well in the field as its superb lab test results suggest. With fast silent focusing and solid build, its lower price makes it a compelling alternative to the camera manufacturers' equivalents if you don't need weather-sealing.

  • +

Superb optics that beat anything else in its class, Impressive flare resistance, Fast, silent, and accurate autofocus, Excellent build quality, Very competitive price, Photographers looking for a top-notch, fast 35mm autofocus prime without breaking the bank.

  • -

Slightly fussy rendition of out-of-focus backgrounds under some conditions, No weather sealing, Anyone who shoots a lot in damp or dusty conditions.

The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is unlike any of the Sigma lenses we have seen in the past. I must applaud Sigma for stepping up and challenging the big brands, by spending their resources on engineering new generation lenses with amazing optics – all at a great value.

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 is nothing short of an optical masterpiece. Its bokeh is worth dying for, and given how demanding today's cameras are, we were surprised to see how well it suppresses chromatic aberrations, flare, and ghosting.

  • +

Exceptional bokeh, Razor-sharp, Optically-superb on APS-C, Unrivaled fast F1.4 aperture (vs. the Pentax lens lineup), Silent autofocus, Perfect for portraits, landscapes, or close-ups, Solid build quality, Professional-grade performance, 4-year extended warranty, Cheaper than the Pentax FA 31mm...

  • -

Much bigger than necessary (for APS-C), Heavy (665g), Long and bulky (with hood), Smaller/cheaper alternatives exist for APS-C cameras, No USB dock available for Pentax, No weather sealing

The Sigma 35mm/f1.4 DG is an excellent fast f1.4 lens, particularly suitable for available-light photography under dim light. Optically, it is a huge improvement from the Nikon 35mm/f1.4 AI-S I bought in the mid 1980’s, but that should not be a surprise given the improvements in optical design in...

Handling and features This lens is the first of Sigma's new 'Art' line of lenses that promise excellent optical quality and increased creative options thanks to a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture.

Sigma’s determined climb from an independent supplier of low-cost lenses to an optics luxury brand enters a new phase with the company’s “Global Vision” initiative. More than just a marketing campaign, the program introduces quality-control innovations such as confining all manufacturing to highly...

Sigma's produced an excellent lens in the 35mm Æ’/1.4 DG HSM, with comparatively great performance at the Æ’/1.4 aperture setting, where the lens will no doubt be used for the majority of the time. There's a lot to like here: great results for sharpness, low chromatic aberration, and low distortion.

This 35mm f/1.4 is from Sigma’s acclaimed Art range, and has been recognised by many as providing some of the best image quality currently available... Packing in 13 elements in 11 groups – including one FLD and 4 SLD low-dispersion elements, as well as two aspherical elements – keeps the image...

From the fast primes that Sigma has introduced so far, this is probably the best one, yet. The resolution is impressive, CAs and distortion are well under control. Vignetting is quite pronounced at large apertures, but that's not really a surprising result for such a fast lens.

I wanted to give my lenses a couple of months before I write a review. I've seen other photographers pictures with their 35mm ART and they are so crisp and clean.. Which is why I decided to go this route instead of the Canon 35mm and I absolutely regret it.

This is the first f/1.4 lens for Nikon that I wouldn't hesitate using wide open, leaving little to be desired. With the possible exception of the 35/1.4 AFS G Nikkor, compared to other f/1.4 Nikkors optics in the 35/50 class, it is relatively free of coma and spherical aberration that hindered wide...

  • +

High overall IQ, great AF focus accuracy, very high build quality for a non-OEM lens.

  • -

Corner falloff wide open, focuses in the opposite direction of Nikkor lenses and lack of weather sealing gasket on lens mount.

After reading online reviews, I sold my Canon to buy this Sigma. The Sigma is far sharper than the Canon equivalent wide open. No regrets here. Until Canon replaces their 35mm with a newer design, this is the 35mm to get.

It works slower than the same EF canon + mc-11. I'm upset. I think about the original series g master

For photos the quality is great. Af works great for photos. Unfortunately for video it lacks but it depends on the way you use it. For fast situations it could struggle. It had hunting issues with me in video for low light. With light it still hunted at times.

Preordered this way back in March hoping it would be the Grail that I was looking for in the Sony 35mm 1.4 dept but alas it surely is not. (Used on Sony A7riii and A7iii for testing) The autofocus in continuous is ok for stills but for video is completely unusable, tacking is very slow and doesn't...

If you have the sony a7iii then the lens is great. I have the Sony a7ii body which doesn't have the eye auto focus. The pictures is sharp but it lacks auto focus as I mentioned I have the sony a7ii body.Let me know what you think @Urbanshots_ (IG)

Oh wow- the autofocus is that bad. Grrr Sigma! Super frustrating as I waited for this Lens forever!!! I knew they had autofocus problems but this is a whole other story. Missed every single shot of my kid. Every. Single. One. Even when I had her just stand there. It's that bad folks.

The lens has major problems with focusing when in single-shot AF mode. It struggles to lock every single time. It takes few left and right hunting moves before locking the object. Once locked it seems to be relatively accurate, so it's more about the speed and focusing process, rather than accuracy.
