Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN is the second lens in the new series of lenses for mirrorless cameras that Sigma has introduced in early 2012. The lens currently is available for both NEX as well as mFT cameras and retails at ~$199 (as of April 2012).

Sigma 19mm F/2.8 Micro Four Thirds Lens This moderate wide angle lens is currently available to fit both Micro Four Thirds and Sony NEX cameras and costs around £170. It sports a bright f/2.8 aperture and a newly developed linear focus motor.

There are a surprising number of alternatives in this category - wide primes for mirrorless cameras - so Sigma's offering comes at an interesting time. It holds its own in our tests, providing a sharp image even wide open at Æ’/2.8, with only slightly notable chromatic aberration in the corners.

A couple of upcoming lenses that I’m looking forward to trying out are the Sigma 19mm and 30mm f/2.8 models for NEX and Micro Four Thirds cameras. I’m particularly looking forward to getting a production model of the 30mm f/2.8 lens in the NEX mount since it works out to a 45mm-equivalent...

This lens is available in either a micro four thirds mount for Olympus and Panasonic cameras or an E mount for the Sony NEX range. On MTF cameras the film equivalent focal length is 38mm and on the Sonys, with the larger sensor, it is 28.5.

The Sigma AF 19mm f/2.8 EX DN shares a couple of characteristics with its sister lens, the Sigma AF 30mm f/2.8 EX DN, but it doesn't reach the same level of performance. The center quality is absolutely great for sure but the outer image regions are soft at f/2.8 and reach only good levels at medium...

The Sigma 19 mm f/2.8 EX DN is neither an outstanding nor an excellent lens. It is optically a bit worse than its 30 mm brother. Its performance on the edge of the frame doesn’t bowl you over; it would be more justifiable if we dealt with a “pancake” lens, not a full-scale and quite slow “prime.

  • +

compact and quite solid build,, very good image quality in the frame centre,, decent image quality on the edge of the Micro 4/3 sensor,, well-corrected chromatic aberration,, slight distortion,, moderate vignetting on the Micro 4/3 sensor,, silent, quick and accurate autofocus,, good price/quality...

  • -

significant vignetting on the APS-C sensor,, noticeable coma,, spherical aberration not corrected properly,, work against bright light could have been better.

13 April 2012

This compact lens should make an ideal addition to any Micro Four Thirds or Sony NEX camera kit. Its light weight, compact size and excellent optical performance are complimented by fast auto focus speeds and good build quality.

  • +

Excellent sharpness from maximum aperture, Compact size, Lightweight, Decent build quality, Quick autofocus

  • -

Slightly high levels of barrel distortion for a prime lens

I bought this as a 28mm equivalent lens for my A6000. Performance is pretty much in line with the review though in my own tests it does not reach the admittedly dizzy heights of its 60mm brother, with the edges staying a notch below the centre.

  • +

Inexpensive, light to carry, good image quality

  • -

    A bit flimsy feeling

This Sigma len fantastic! It works very well with my Olympus and Panasonic micro four thirds cameras . it's a high-quality prime lens I have 19mm and 30mm. And soon the 60mm.

I was on the fence between the Sigma and the Olympus 17, so far, I haven't missed those 2mm like I thought I would. It's fast focusing and crisp, and color rendering is nice. I DO wish so bad it were more of a pancake, but you can't have it all!

Great lens for aps-c. Using on a sony 6000. For the money, can't complain. Nice!

Best freaking lens ever!! I use on my Panasonic g7 and the colors are sooo vibrant & rich!! It's my go to lens for everything.

17 April 2017

nice quality but hunts a big too much and violently. making for unusable footage in low light situations.

Grate lens and grate price.

I'm not a pro photographer, just a traveler and photo enthusiast. For me, this is very good lens for a reasonable price. I needed a prime lower light, wide-angel lens with for my sony a6000. This fills the bill nicely.

20 March 2017

I use it for taking pictures with a Sony A6000 mounted on my skydiving helmet....

11 March 2017

Buy the 30mm 1.4f instead. Trust me.
