Where the non-OS lens is disappointing this stabilised version is a stunner, with excellent resolution

  • +

Excellent resolution for this type of lens, OS, price

  • -

    Too much chromatic aberration

The 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM is on the face of it an ideal 'do-it-all' travel lens; the 11x zoom range, image stabilization and useful close focus distance combine to give great operational flexibility.

  • +

Huge 11x focal length range, ideal general purpose and travel lens, Relatively low chromatic aberration, Low distortion (for a superzoom), Reasonably effective optical stabilization system, 2.5 - 3 stops benefit

  • -

Very inconsistent sharpness through the zoom range - extremely soft at 80mm, Soft corners at all focal lengths, Occasionally indecisive autofocus, Slightly less resistant to flare than its more recent competitors

I was not completely excited about the sharpness of this and the dozen or so other images I captured in the couple of minutes the light remained on the hill. A tiny, light lens results in an inertia disadvantage that makes it harder to hold steady, and I guessed that this issue was the likely cause...

Unsurprisingly a lens with this kind of focal range is rarely going to performas well as one with a shorter range, but we were impressed overall by the resultspossible. Certainly unless you're into extreme wide or telephoto work, or demandthe ultimate quality, you could really be very happy with...

  • +

Highly versatile 11.1x zoom range, Great value, Relatively small and light - great travel lens, Polariser-friendly internal focusing

  • -

Tamron version very similar, Pricier Nikkor version has anti-shake, Pricier Nikkor version is optically faster, Pricier Nikkor version has better build quality

Wanted a decent, all-rounder-type lens for my Canon 1100D / Rebel T3i with wider range to replace my 18-55mm kit lens & this one certainly hasn't dissapointed (first lens purchase too.) In decent light, it's pretty sharp and good rendition of colour too, from what I can tell.

  • +

Easily Interchangeable, Nice Features, Nice Quality For Price

  • -

    Heavy, Poor in Low Light

good walk around lens, excellent reach but light is compromised, switched it for the 17-50mm f/2.8 OS, now the wife uses it for when we travel, does not distort like the Nikons of the same family, have not noted any chromatic aberration, fringing, vignetting, etc...

its a great overall lens

  • +

    Lightweight Great build fast
