The Pentax SMC DA 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 ED AL (IF) DC WR lens features an all-weather design and delivers on its promise of a long zoom range, but its image quality is disappointing.

7.5x zoom range., All-weather design., Compact and light.

Soft edges and weak telephoto performance., Noticeable distortion.
After the announcement of the Sigma’s 18-200 mm OS suggested price my first impressions were rather negative – I didn’t think it could sell itself well. It turned out the Sigma company knew what they were doing – they simply appreciate the products they consider good.

compact dimensions for such a wide focal range,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, lower distortion level than in the case of competitors,, not bothersome vignetting in the middle of the focal lengths range,, low coma for longer focal lengths,, negligible astigmatism for the range of...

weak image quality at the frame edge for the range of 100-200 mm and near the maximum relative aperture,, distinct distortion level at 18 mm,, high vignetting for both extremes of the focal range,, high astigmatism for the range of 100-200 mm,, not very efficient image stabilization.
Bought my 18-200 on march 8th 2015 and it has become my go to zoom for my Pentax K-3. For a relatively inexpensive zoom its very sharp through out the focal length, providing you keep the aperture a stop or two over fully open. It's relatively quiet and does not 'hunt" for focus which is a plus.
Tried this instead of an canon lens and the images are the same
Good lens, no problems. Has good smooth zoom operation.
I am copying here my dyxum review: Compared to: Sigma 18-200 3.5-6.3 (first version) Positive: Focal range Size, weight Sharpness Quiet HSM focusing AF accuracy Negative: Vignetting AF speed Review: I used to have the older (first) screw drive version of the lens which served me well for some time,...
Great lens for carrying all day, excellent sharpness and bokeh. Used all the time on my Sony A58
I love this lens over the old Tamron version i had, its quick to focus and images are bright and clear but sharp.Just watch the lens hood to make sure its secured on if your keeping it on the lens in reverse.

Quick Focus, Strong Construction
a very good do-it-all travel lens.

sharpness, less CA, value for money. a little alteration to the above maxim " you are getting more than what you are paying."
-
-
color saturation is not very good; bit biased towards green[but can be fixed in post processing] having said that, the maxim goes "you get what you pay."
