Amazing lens. Sigma has really upped their game with their new lenses. This thing is build solidly and with a max aperture of f/1.8 it absorbs tons of light and is super sharp. I used to be a skeptic years ago with Sigma but it seems like they're making top notch lenses that can run with the best of...
I just purchased this lens and it is far better than what I expected of it. The quality of the body is well built, strong and durable. It is a little heavy to carry but at the same time it gives you a sense of of having a better lens compared to those built of plastic.
I did a quick test with this lens as soon as i receive it and im confirming what the reviews i read say, the lens is very very sharp even at its widest aperture f1.8 the center was very sharp and the corners a little soft which is expected, at f8 is very sharp corner to corner.
I am using 2 Sigma 14mm lenses for time-lapse photography in our earthquake test lab. They provide a view of the entire lab without fisheye distortion. The quality of the images, using Canon 450D cameras is good.
IMO this lens is built for one purpose only: astrophotography. In other words, if you are looking for a versatile ultra-wide-angle lens capable of multiple tasks, this 14mm F/1.8 Art is not what you want (and get a 11-24, 14-24, or 16-35 instead).
The Sigma 14mm f2.8 is a great lens. It does a good job of keeping line straight. As others have stated you need to stop down (5.6 or higher) to keep sharp focus. That's the case with most very wide angle lenses. It is difficult to focus as others as said.
I shoot a lot of health care projects and am in small examinations room where even my 18-105 wont let me get a profile two-shot. This bad boy really does the job. It balances nicely on my Fs5ii and surprisingly has very little barrel distortion and the chromatic aberration is negligible .
My copy of this lens gives good image quality, though it does have slight barrel distortion (things near the edge of the field of view bulge out very slightly). This is typical for this wide of a lens, and isn't noticeable unless viewing something with lots of straight lines near and parallel to the...
This lens is not for everybody. If you need wide and fast and don't mind the weight and the price, get yourself one. Only negative I can think of is you can't use conventional filters.
I borrowed the lens once and i just bought itI wanted to shoot some Christmas pictures in New York last year.I can only say, Incredible sharpness, and qualityI had the lens on my Sony a7iii and I was absolutely satisfiedAnd for those who complain, no lens is perfect.
