The Shure SRH1540 is among the more accurate headphone pairs we've tested, delivering deep lows and crisp highs clearly with very little boosting.

  • +

Excellent audio performance., Impressively lightweight despite large size., Exceptionally comfortable., Ships with two detachable cables, a replacement pair of earcups, and the sturdiest hard-shell headphone case we've ever seen.

  • -

No inline remote control or mic on either cable., Not for booming bass lovers.

“The SRH1540 epitomize our “ideal sound,” making fewer compromises and scoring more wins than any full-size headphone we’ve heard under $1000.”

Shure's rich-sounding, full-size headphone flatters a wide range of music genres.

The Shure SRH1540 has been around for a while now, but as far as high-end closed-back headphones go, it’s nowhere near obsolete. Needing to write another review, I figured I might as well tackle a staple and give you the lowdown.

I do love a high-end American brand; there’s something reassuring and macho about technology from the guys who invented it in its modern form. And there’s no brand more Marlboro Man than Shure of Chicago, long-esteemed maker of microphones and headphones.

The new Shure closed flag ship is a major contender to the headphone market. I believe it to be one of, if not the best closed back headphone on the market. It brings superb comfort with an above average imaging and soundstage that makes it hard to put down. It is simply a joy to listen too.

Let me start off by saying these are absolutely the best sounding headphones I have ever heard and that is comparing them to the Audio Technica M70X's, The Audio Technica MSR7's and The Sennheiser HD 650's (which I know some of you will consider blasphemy) They are THAT GOOD!

The Shure headphones are very comfortable to wear, something that is very appreciated. The sound I hear through them I would describe as rather neutral and airy with a solid bass, allowing me to hear in a way that has been impossible previously.

When I'm editing, I'm wearing headphones for hours and found many of the other headphones I wore would become uncomfortable - not so with these headphones. Honestly, I don't have a single complaint from an audio, styling, or comfort standpoint. They even came with an extra set of pads.

I purchased these from zZounds several months ago with low expectations. I use these in my home production studio for vocal tracking and occasional mixing. After a long burn in period, it became apparent that these were the best headphones I've ever used and with thirty years in the business, I've...

I had to wait a day to write this review because I was speechless. The headphones I have been using for the past five years were Shure SRH940's and they have been outstanding. The SRH1540 headphones really kind of blew my existing pair away with the flatness of response.

These are truly amazing headphones. I wanted to buy a pair of very high quality closed back headphones and these are perfect. I am the first to admit that I'm addicted to headphones and own AKG, Beyer, Sony, and Sennheiser cans. The sound is phenomenal, and they're very comfortable.

On general principles I don't award 5 stars to much of anything these days, but these headphones almost deserve that. I finally got tired of the weak bass on my studio's default ATH M40fs phones ( ihave about 8 of them) and broke down to buy a proper set. for my use in the control room.

These earphones replace a Technics pair, bought at least fifteen years ago. My first impressions are that they offer a range of sounds not experienced before from my good amp and KEF reference speakers. I look forward to hearing both my classical and Trad Jazz recordings with renewed interest!

I have owned these for over a year now, and can confirm that these are great sounding headphones, and at the current price, are a bargain (I paid over £200 more back then). These headphones are comfortable, and adjust to fit the largest of heads (my melon was happy).
