The Shure SM137 is very clear and flat, and with a controllable proximity effect. The flat frequency response in particular makes this a superb performer as far as versatility goes, being well suited to most applications in a studio style setting.

I think this was originally introduced as the KSM-109 in champagne finish. It was discontinued from the KSM line and became the SM-137 in black finish. I have used it for a variety of tasks including close instrument pick-up (both wind and brass), strings, controlled vocals, podcasts and orchestra.

Sound Quality

I'm not saying this is the best microphone out there, but at this price point you can't really beat it. I'm using it as my hi-hat microphone. It's less than half the price of a KSM137 or KSM141. I'm really happy with this purchase. I got one of the "open box" items at a discounted price.
