This system has 2 enormous flaws, 1 of which Sennheiser either is not aware of or is pretending to not be aware of it.1. The first part isn't necessarily a flaw, but a huge hinderance. You cannot use this system with an older Sennheiser wireless system such as a G3 series or something like that.
The little receiver is so compact it fits on my camera without interfering with the camera functions. Also there's no need for a shoe mount! Granted it's expensive but for an investment piece it's a great choice. Sound quality is exceptional and the lav mic is tiny.
I love the build quality, small size, and ease of use. I used to have the rode filmmaker kit and didn't like how it felt kinda cheap and was bigger than I preferred. Although more expensive, I feel much happier with this mic setup.
I havent had any problems with this device yet. I have been using it for 7 months mostly interviews and mobile segments audio quality has been great so far.
My experience with other Sennheiser microphones was already good, but the new AVX with MKE2 lavalier is fantastic. The elimination of ambient noise added to the leveling of the volume peaks, leaves the system unbeatable.
We purchased this to have alternative bandwidth than our older Sony UTX-B2 wireless lavs. We liked the small form factor and long USB charging battery life, and simple pairing. All things we still like.
If you touch the wire you will have a lot of noise. It means you'll have noise always. Ridiculous!
I am using the mic with a JuicedLink preamp on a Nikon D800. Truly plug and play. The sound quality is super clean and the system could not be easier to use. I particularly like the short, solid antennas.
I shoot with a C100 & 5D Mark III and have been using the Audio Technica System 10 wireless lavs for about a year now. They have been great so far but now that I use the c100 more often the need for XLR inputs is preferred. The AVX blows the Audio Technica System 10 out of the water!!!
I can't believe that nobody else has mentioned the latency issues. The audio quality is excellent. I previously used the Sony UWP series and this version has much clearer audio. The downside for me is latency. I shoot a lot of multicam interviews using panasonic GH4,GH3, Sony A7SII etc...
