The only problem with any of these drives is noise if it is inside a plastic NAS but you can solve some of this issue with velcro, check out a couple of videos on YouTube for the info. But the disk drive for my Plex Server is working great, way better than a normal drive so much faster also.
It’s good but wouldn’t say the best. Makes noises when installing things pretty loud which is normal but I just don’t really like the somewhat loud rattling noise it has. I’ve been using it over a month and overall it’s pretty good for this price. I’m thinking to change to an ssd later on.
My Synology NAS DS418J is unable to support the new drive. Sent an email to Swagath support if the firmware can be upgraded. Seems Firmware EN02 is supported but not EN01. Awaiting an update before I return the drive. I even tried to upgrade Synology DSM to 7 thinking itMay help with drive support.
On the first photo, it shows my brand spanking new IronWolf ST4000VN008 4.0-TB secondary storage drive along with my recycled storage Barracuda 7200 rpm 250.0-GB. The ST4000VN008 working as intended. My computer is aircooled without Noctua NH-C14S and another Noctua 3000 rpm 120mm case fan.
I tried using this in a HD enclosure using a USB cable, but even though the computer seen it, it wouldn'd recognize it. So I tried on a different computer, same issue. Eventually I learned to initialize it, then format it, and no problems since. Actually quite and fast, no complaints.
I have two of these drives in a NAS with RAID1. One of them failed in one year, and I had to replace it. Luckily it's still under warranty and Seagate has honored the claim.
I bought two HDs to use with my NAS. I received them in a well-wrapped package, installed them and both are displayed properly in the system. Installation was easy, in fact just take out of the box to open the cover and assemble in the NAS.
I bought it on a discount so the value of money is so satisfying. The drive is very good and works smoothly. So sar I had no issues. I am using it in synology ds1621+ with other seagate ironwolf drives … had no issues with those too.
No problems
IronWolf is designed for a NAS Environment, But Unfortunately nothing is perfect as you can see in the attached picture. The Drive itself is still functioning but is pron for failure in the upcoming days due to high amount of bad sectors.
