It does use a retractable design followed by 5 years warranty period label, but in reality the write speed is so bad, it shouldn't be labeled as USB 3.0, rather its a drive that happens to have a blue coloured connector. The read speed is mediocre, so for such tasks it shouldn't be an issue.
5 Years Warranty, Retractable design
Bad write performance, Not recommended for frequent file transfer purposes
Just purchased this item as a means of "triple redundant" backup for my photo catalog. I have used other SanDisk products in the past, and rely upon their excellent quality for my memory and storage needs. This item, as every other SanDisk product I have purchased, worked flawlessly out of the box.
With a new computer, the first thing you should do is run the backup/recovery protocol (for which a USB Thumb Drive of 16GB minimum is recommended). This particular drive has a distinct blue casing, making it easy to distinguish it from other thumb drives. It's very well suited for this use case.
These devices are great for backup of data. I have two on the same system and they are dependable. Good investment.
Very slow. When attempting to transfer large (10's of GB) files, it quickly slows down to about 10MB/s transfer speed. Using the same port & PC, my other large USB flash drive (a Corsair) transferring the same files sustains a speed of well over 100MB/s.
An Amazing amount of capacity for the price. I've only used it for a few days so time will tell if it holds up but for now it is what I expected. I suppose the write speed is a bit slow, copying about 1GB of music files the average was 10MB/s but I don't really mind as I mostly wanted the higher...
I decided to find out. I was removing and consolidating my media from several overloaded computers. The speed of offloading the computers was stunning compared to the cheap bargain USB memory sticks I have purchased in the past.
Recent purchase to back up all my files from my Lack Top.
The USB key works like a charm, but the construction part feels like it is cheaply made. Where it slides in and out the usb sometimes gets stuck on the inside of the body. The hole in the back for a key ring feels like it will break any minute, especially if a ring was put in.
