The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is the best super-ultrawide monitor ever made. It also has issues. It delivers great HDR, boosts contrast four-fold compared to its already solid predecessor, and offers excellent motion clarity at a variety of refresh rates.
![]() |
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is excellent for gaming. It has a 240Hz refresh rate with native FreeSync and G-SYNC compatibility, but there are some bugs with its VRR. It has low input lag and a quick response time, but its response time is slower than most 240Hz monitors.
-
+
240Hz refresh rate with FreeSync support and G-SYNC compatibility., HDMI 2.1 inputs., Great contrast and good Mini LED local dimming for deep blacks., Good motion handling.
-
-
Aggressive screen curve makes it hard to share screen., Issues with VRR at 60Hz.

The Samsung S49AG95 Odyssey Neo G9 delivers an amazing SDR and HDR gaming experience thanks to its high resolution, high refresh rate, VRR, fast response time, and 2048-zone mini LED FALD.
-
+
2048-zone mini LED FALD offers exceptional contrast ratio with minimal blooming, High 1000-nit peak brightness, Wide color gamut, high pixel density, Plenty of features including VRR up to 240Hz, Rapid 1ms GtG response time speed, Ergonomic stand

Last year, I had the opportunity to review the mother of all gaming monitors: the Samsung Odyssey G9 49″ QLED ultrawidescreen with DQHD resolution. The company is back with an updated version for 2021: the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9.
-
+
Minor design changes like customizable game mode buttons, Great colour and contrast with Mini LED panel, 240Hz refresh rate great for gaming, Brighter than ever, Immersive 1000R curvature, Dual HDMI 2.1 and a single DisplayPort 1.4, Very little, if any, backlight bleed, Standard and Dynamic HDR...

-
Some games still have issues with double QHD resolution (note: not a fault of the monitor), HDR on Windows is still hit and miss (note: not a fault of the monitor), LED ring could be brighter, Pricey due to Mini LED technology

We've hardly seen a cooler screen for games.
-
+
Fantastic bold images combined with high resolution, lightning fast response and an all-immersive super wide format, What's not to like?
-
-
Local dimming must be turned off during image processing, and then the contrast becomes somewhat dull.

The original G9’s one obvious flaw was clunky edge-lit backlighting. In theory, the Neo G9 buries that with a cutting-edge mini-LED backlight. In practice, some surprising clunkiness remains.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a super ultrawide Mini LED gaming monitor that will blow you – and your budget – away
-
+
Phenomenal HDR performance, Accurate, responsive panel, Huge screen
-
-
Staggeringly expensive, Underequipped with ports, Large and heavy

Editor’s Note: This review was conducted on an earlier firmware version on the monitor. HDR issues mentioned below are said to now be addressed through the latest firmware update available.
-
+
Pretty much feature-complete, Lots of I/O, Great all-rounder for all kinds of games, Excellent for productivity use
-
-
Rather expensive, HDR implementation isn’t great

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 has incredible SDR and HDR performance, with brilliant contrast and bold colours, and its form factor makes it immersive and engaging. The refresh rate and response times are great, too.

Wallet-busting price, 32:9 aspect ratio won’t suit everyone, Requires a powerful graphics card, Connectivity could be improved, You’re on a budget, you don’t play HDR games or you’re an esports fan: The Neo is expensive, and it’s not worth it if you won’t make use of every feature or if you don’t...
Great monitor the curve doesn't bother me at all, my first curved screen monitor, looks really nice at 1440 love it
I do admit the ultrawide 32:9 gaming monitor market is niche - but the features make this monitor very interesting: Mini-led backlight (with 2048 dimming zones - more than Samsung's own mini-led tv's), G-sync/free-sync, fast response time,1000R curve, futuristic design, PIP/PBP features and...
Fantastic screen for multitasking for work and exceptional for gaming. Can't go back to a multi monitor display after using this monitor. Be sure to upgrade the firmware once your set up for optimal performance.
I bought this last week and have no regret with the purchase. The super ultra wide is exactly what I'm after. Really helps with gaming and work productivity. Even without turning the monitor on, it is aesthetically pleasing just to look at.
Everything is great about the monitor. The quality and features. Except the monitor wobbles easy on the stand it comes with but it does come with a monitor arm bracket. Might get one of those.
Dead pixel that Samsung will not agree to fix; claiming that as per warranty Terms, only a cluster of dead pixels are valid for warranty claims. EVEN THOUGH THE T&C DETAILS IS ONLY RECEIVED AFTER PURCHASE!

Realistic color, Bright display

Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
Very pricey, but so far is worth the high price tag.
I use this monitor connected to a MacBook Pro for work, I don't use it for gaming. It's a great screen, although the off-axis colour rendition could be improved. Colours will wash out if you look at it at too sharp an angle.
Got G9 Neo 24 Hours ago. Tested RF2 and jaw dropping. Hooked up to a 3090 Asus OC and a 5950X on a top Asus motherboard. Pcars 3 is also running like I have never seen before. The update method is real trick, find that Guy on youtube And had to use 4 difrent USB sticks to get one to work.
