The Samsung Ativ Book 9 2014 Edition should be on your short list if you want a premium, long-lasting ultrabook, but don't need a higher-than-HD display.
Slimmer, lighter design and larger display than previous iteration. Premium materials. Fourth-generation Intel Core i5 processor and 128GB solid-state drive keep things speedy. All-day battery life. Full-size HDMI port. Sound technology geared toward audiophiles.
Full HD rather than Quad HD+ display on previous model. Dongles required for VGA and Ethernet. Slightly higher price than previous iteration.
Formerly the Samsung Series 9, the rebranded Ativ Book 9 got little more than a change in name; the laptop feels dated, as it lacks a touch screen and the benefits of newer Intel processors.
The Samsung Ativ Book 9 is still one of the smallest and best-built Windows 8 ultrabooks around, and has a crisp 1080p display.
It lacks a touch screen, and battery life is disappointing for such an expensive laptop.
But if you want a desktop replacement that's easy to pick up for travel, and that offers a terrific typing, video viewing, and music listening experience to boot, the ATIV Book 9 2014 Edition is a splendid choice. It boasts everything we look for in a premium laptop, and then some.
Elegant aluminum design, Excellent keyboard and touch pad, Loud and clear audio, Vivid 1080p display, Long battery life
Only 128GB of storage, Middling benchmark performance
Under the name 900X3C-A04DE Samsung offers the well-known 13.3-inch Premium Subnotebook with fresh hardware from Intel. In addition to the matte display with a resolution of 1600x900 pixels, an Intel Core i7-3517U dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD will be offered.
Design, workmanship and balance, High quality unibody case, New communications options, Maintenance without much effort, Good input devices and illumination, Impressive PLS-Display, Matte screen surface, Good application performance, Very good battery life, The slim case in 'Mineral Ash Black', the...
Limited expandability, Straightforward interface equipment, Card reader is hard to reach, No VGA or HDMI adapter included, Emissions while under stress, A second USB 3.0 port and the possibility to upgrade the RAM. An integrated WWAN module in this clase would be an excellent selling point.
The Samsung Series 9 NP900X3B has many attributes to make it desirable. Design, performance, portability and screen are all points in its favor. But battery life – 5 hours – and few ports count as its major faults.
The Samsung NP900X3C is a great notebook features a stunning design its main strength, and remarkable technical specifications. The display is of the highest quality. Connectivity is complete, and also includes an HDMI port.
Screen Resolution, Design, Door microHDMI, memory card reader, HD webcam; Connectivity.
The Samsung Series 9 is the most well-rounded Ultrabook we’ve reviewed to date. It gets almost everything right – it even has decent speakers. The 1600×900 PLS display has fantastic picture quality with unlimited viewing angles and an anti-glare coating for better usability.
Fantastic high-res display, Excellent performance, Good backlit keyboard, 7.5 hours of battery life
Limited amount of ports, Loud touchpad clicks, Pricey
A year ago most ultrabooks sold for around $1000 and up. Today you can find models priced as low as $600 or as high as $1500. The Samsung Series 9 sits somewhere in the middle — and the model I purchased offers pretty strong performance for the price. It doesn’t provide a no-compromise experience.
A fantastic Ultrabook that boasts superb build quality and a balanced specification at an appealing price
By for the base Series 9 model, and thereby going toe to toe with Apple, Samsung is showing bold confidence in its product. For the most part, I'd say that confidence is warranted. The Series 9 looks great, feels slim and slick, and doesn't weigh much.
After considering many options for a lightweight travel notebook to replace a Core-M tablet/keyboard combo, this the Samsung Notebook 9 won due to 16 GB RAM, i7-7500U processor, USB-C and USB=3 ports, and, most important, light weight (more than a pound less than my Core-M tablet combo).
Weight under 2 lbs, runs Linux, easy SSD upgrade, full USB-C capability
So lightweight it seems fragile, battery life maxes out around 6 hours
I generally don't write reviews, but I felt I must share my experience with this laptop so far. First off, this is a beautiful laptop, very well thought out design. At 1.8 lbs, this laptop is amazingly light, and yet it feels durable.
I bought this laptop and immediately noticed a screen issue where lines would appear on white backgrounds. It came down to how the screen ribbon cable was connected to the LCD. I can only assume there was a compromise in build quality to get it this light.
I bought this to fill the gap between my desktop and my tablet when I'm on the go and a tablet just is not enough. It links seamlessly to my galaxy S3 and galaxy note 10.1. Sidesync may see gimmicky, but there is a time and place for it.
fast, light, screen resolution, everything
Nice Ultrabook but it has a few niches. Screen could be sharper and have better color depth. The AC Wifi Adapter does not handle 5GHz AC b;and well. Lots of dropouts.
To me this is one of the best devices I have ever owned. The previous laptop I had was very heavy for me to take back and forth in my book bag, but this laptop weighs absolutely nothing! It is extremely fast and the battery life is very very long!
I got this laptop for mobility. I wanted something reliable and thin for me to carry around on a daily basis. I really like the specs offered and decided to give it a try. Although the screen comes in several sizes from 13.3 inches to 15.6 inches, I decided to get the 13.3 inches because it is...
i really did not expect so much difference in the advertised vs. actual performance. Battery showed 3+ hours when charged 98%. now, consistently show 5+ hours for full charge.i have tried draining and recharging and results are no different.
The more commonly available operating systems that have a long history tend to have numerous difficulties that are rarely well understood or corrected. Why couldn't Samsung help circumvent some of these issues, by including a three way immediately selectable: Chromebook OS, Linux operating system...
I currently work in I.T. dealing with hospitality networks. Constantly on the go and managing/configuring networks in a crowded storage room. This laptop is priced competitively, has great specs, and excellent for one handed use!
