This is what I call a fun lens. I got the Canon version, which is totally manual. This is really not an issue. Once you get the hand of it, it's very easy to use and the pictures look great! On the Canon it covers a field of vision of around 167 degrees. You can get a whole room on one shot.
Not a big fan of this lens. The auto exposure doesn’t work that great and it makes it hard to focus correctly. I’ve had better result with cheaper fish eye lens! It’s too late for me to return it. i don’t recommend it!!
Great lens for the price. If you know the various personality issues of a fish eye lens (distortion, etc) and accept that this is manual focus and aperture adjustment, then you should love this lens. It is very solid and well made.
I recommend this lens. This lens works very well as a standard wide angle in a lot of shots, with the fisheye effect being negligible. For those that want a strong fisheye effect in most shots, this lens might not be for you.
Amazing quality for a reasonable price. This lens is very good, easy to use, fine optics, well built.
As with all Rokinon/Samyang lenses, it depends on how good your copy is. Unfortunately the copy I received was bad. It could not focus to infinity. I even did some tests where I started at "1 ft." on the focus ring and gradually increased the focus distance on the scale.
Reading online reviews suggested focusing this lens could be very difficult. After receiving the lens I photographed a car across the street about 50ft and never could get the lens in focus enough to read the license plate. Ordered another after calling Rokinon.
It said that this lens would give a circular image, which i have seen with other 8mm lenses on full frame bodies. (I use them all the time for work). This did no such thing, First of all you can see the lens hood which is not detachable, and second it produces a fairly squashed square.
I wanna start by saying that I'm not a professional or anything. I'm a novice at best. I just use my camera on vacations almost exclusivity. I'm still using a t3i rebel Canon that I got About 6 years ago so take what I say with a grain of salt. I think this lense is amazing. It's so wide.
I love this fisheye. Placed on a Canon crop sensor camera you get magnification of 1.6x. Instead of 8mm, it becomes a 12.8 mm and this helps you not get the oval fisheye problem that you would see in a full size sensor.
